I hate the god-botherers that are constantly telling me I'm going to hell for playing rock music. If you don't like, go listen to some of your christian crap. What? What's that? The christian artist are just as bad? Lanny Wolfe is a homosexaul now? Most of the artist have drinking and drug problems? Amy Grant had a child out of wedlock? Sounds like a bad imitation of what we already have. I hope my grandfather reads this and then has the nerve to look me in the eye the next time he's preaching. Just because my lyrics don't say "praise god" doesn't mean I'm tearing down the moral infrastructure of America. What the hell man... I just wann play music.

Actually, it is pretty clear that by exposing yourself to the tales of sin that masquerade as rock "music", you are condemning yourself to eternal damnation.
Those people are just trying to save your soul. You should be thankful. To them and to God.

On behaf of christianity I must say; most christians are wrong in thier interpretation of music and its holyness. The truth is, God has no preference, he likes all music, and no music is christian or non-christian, how could it be! Its just sound waves! Now some lyrics may not agree with God's teachings, some may even be sinfull, but that does not mean that the entire genre is evil. I am a christian and I used to beleive that some music was evil, but then one day I decided to actually read the book that I put my faith in and guess what I found; it says nothing about any kind of music being evil! Infact, many things in the bible actual disprove some of the beliefs of my fellow babtist, such as the belief that many of them hold that dancing is sinnful. Well guess what, they need to read the Bible because it is full of Dancing. Infact David, the man that God called " a man after God's own heart," he praised God all the time by dancing!
Sorry I didn't mean to rant, I just wanted to reasure you that not all christians are like the ones you are describing. And those christians bother me too because they actually drive people away from God rather that bring them closer to him.

You are complaining about the same argument that kids/teens/young men and women have had sinced the 1950's, or very likely, earlier. Ignore them. How do they know what God likes or dislikes in music?

Yes and no.
First off, most contemporary music encourages idolatry and worshiping false gods. The "artists" are put in the place of the Lord and the fans fall to their knees in ecstasy at the sight of their false idols. Do I really need to quote scripture to support that worshiping anyone other than the Lord is sinful and evil?
Second, the very origins of rock music are sinful. Rock music was born of drugs, alcohol, and sexual promiscuity. All sins. If a genre of music could have original sin, rock music would. But more importantly, this is continued with current artists. Virtually all rock artists engage in wanton lust and/or drugs. They live sinful lives, and place themselves in the place of the Lord. Any association with these demons places your soul in peril.
Third, there are the lyrics. Overwhelmingly the lyrics of rock music (indeed all popular music) describe and glorify sin of almost every stripe and color.
How can music made by sinners, originated from sin, describing sin, and encouraging sin NOT be sinful?

Well, I must admit that I am partial to Gregorian chants. Very nice to have on in the background, and I have a sizeable collection. I also like to play hymns during the Christmas season. And of course I enjoy the music in church. If it is pleasing to the Lord, it is pleasing to me.

I missed this the first time around. On what does MTV base this claim?
The Bible does not spend a lot of time discussing music. My recollection is actually that the ONLY music that is discussed is song raised in the praise of God. Clearly God favors praise in all its forms, including song.
But to blindly declare that God likes all music, and has no preference? One thing I think is pretty clear from the Bible is that God has lots of preference about just about everything. God isn't neutral on many things.
To simply declare that God "likes all music", including music that embraces sin, seems to me to be unfounded in the least, and arguably flat out blasphemous.

My parents and grandparents have driven me away from the idea of "God" in any way, shape or form. There are MASSIVE discrepancys in the bible (but that's another argument for another time) to look me, his own flesh and blood, in the eye and tell me I'm damned to hell for playing drums, my "god given talent" in a rock band, without having heard one second or read one lyric is WRONG. I put countless amounts of practice in every day, make my own money working at Burger King to buy my own equipment, bought the cymbals AND completely rebuilt the churches snare drum, AND put heads (regularly) on each drum, have not asked for a penny of the well over 600$ I've spent, and I'm kicked off of the drums at church because I'm playing "Devil Dancing Music" at home with MY equipment? As for devil dancing, I don't think I've ever seen someone dance to Nickelback or Avenged Sevenfold. This isn't Elvis. I don't do drugs, I don't drink, I don't smoke, I try not to cuss and I'm going to hell because of a musical preference? I doubt it.
Oh, and for the record, Gregorian Chants are based on Druidic melodys. As in witchcraft.

I tend to agree - there is nothing inherently evil or sinful about drums.
I don't do drugs, I don't drink, I don't smoke, I try not to cuss and I'm going to hell because of a musical preference? I doubt it. |
So you only play this music, and don't listen? You don't listen to Nickelback and other popular (read "sinful") bands? Even if your playing doesn't damn you, your listening will.
Oh, and for the record, Gregorian Chants are based on Druidic melodys. As in witchcraft.

This is a hoax perpetuated by haters. The origins of Gregorian chants are fairly well documented as Northern France, after the arrival of Christendom. Any tie to a previous, pagan style of music is theoretical at best, if for no other reason than that Gregorian chants praise God, and pagan music does not.

... You honestly expect me to believe that ONE man and his imideiate family gathered a male AND female of EVERY animal type BY HAND and put thm all on a boat TOGETHER? thats the biggest load of B.S. I've EVER heard, next to "water in to wine/raised from the dead"

So my music choice is sending me to hell? now you sound like my grandfather. Christians are all the same, so busy saving people they don't stop and THINK before they talk.
I'm guessing by your screen name that you've watched the Fantastic Four movie? hmmm.... I don't quite remember, but didn't that have a lot of sexual innuendo in it? Not very christian. "What so ever is good, what so ever is pure, what so ever is holy, think on these things."
Just because I don't believe in whats writtn doesn't mean I don't study the crap.

Schlock, It is pointless and a waste of effort to argue with her. I have dealt with too many people like her who use the bible as their shield. Go on with your life, continue to play what you want to play. Continue to be self sufficient with your love of music. Susan, this is not an attack on you. I believe it is admirable that you take your love of God very seriously and I wish you well on your endevors.

I have no problem with people praising their God. As long as they stay out of my business and stop trying to "save" me, I have no qualms. If I wanted to be saved, I would confront Jesus and/or God myself. I don't need some type of Jesus concentration camp to become devout.
