yes, how much are you paying? you might want to try a different barrel. look at J&J ceramics seem to be very reliable and accurate.

flatlines are not very accurate... it's more a spray and pray type, with some extra distance.

Flatlines are paintpicky but are accurate when used right.

To answer your question, the barrel will work. The only differences over the years are paintjobs and a few minor things.

i've got the a-5 stealth with the flatline barrel and i've had it for 3 months now and havn't had the first problem with the barrel or the marker.

and i disagree with them being paint picky, i've used many different types of shells and i'v only had 1 ball break so far

By paint picky, SSOK is referring to the size, seam and shell thickness of the paintball.  Small to medium bore with a thicker shell are better tolerated by the Flatline Barrel because of it's operation.  Using brittle or thin shelled paint can cause breaks inside the barrel.  Using large bore paint can negate the flatline effect, or they too can break in the barrel.  And seams, well everyone wants a paintball with the least amount of seam.

I've found that "winter" paint (Frostbite I think it's called) worked nicely in my flatline on my A5.  Keep in mind that the 98 flatline is much more accruate, so if you've got the desire and money you could always hit up UMS and get the 98 flatline on your A5.

In my experience, both are generally equal in accuracy and the A5 Flatline is easier to install correctly.  Additionally, the A5 Flatline seems to work better at slightly lower velocities than the 98 model.  I'm curious about this adapter you mentioned for putting the 98 Flatline on the A5.  I've heard of the UMS adapter for mounting Apex tips on other barrels, but not one like you mentioned.
