For those of you who have gone to public grade schools and high schools, did you always have police on campus?
I don't know if it's the area I live in or not, but I don't know of public one grade school or high school that doesn't always have at least one police officer on campus at all times.

My school used to have a SRO (Student Resource Officer) but we don't anymore due to budget cuts. We do have two security guards who used to be cops though.

We usually have 3 cops (2000 kids), though they do a security check once a month and we have 8-10.

We had one officer who was the liason between the school district and the P.D.
But they spent most of their time at the middle school, doing nothing.

My High School generally has about 5 (sometimes more, sometimes less) armed officers on Campus during standard hours. During Football games it seems that half the counties cops are there.
My Middle School had two officers.
My elementary school had one.

We have one SRO and then just the random drug dog cops that come every once in awhile.

We have cops around our school sometimes, but not often even though the cop shop is right beside the high school. Mostly only one cop comes in our school and he is our defensive football coach. He also takes some of the dogs he trains in the school to get them used to strangers.

I dunno, something about a middle school and elementary needing police seems sketchy.

we had 1-2 SRO's on campus one male and one female, for 5500 students
i remember one time that the female one was breaking up a fight between two girls and one of the girls friends punched the SRO in the face, needless to say she got a baton to the face and time in jail.

My high school has a State trooper yet It isn't really needed but I guess that's good and It makes you feel more comfortable in school after such incidents as columbine etc. But living In a decently small country school in western New York incidents like that seem so foreign to what school I'm used to. So It's going to suck if I ever move to a city or something as I admit I'm very sheltered from violence, crime, etc. But I believe having a cop in a school doesn't necessarily help kids but helps make their learning environment more safe so I guess it's a good thing at least for high schools.

My school is so tuff, it isnt the students that get shot, it is the officers.

None until the school was rebuilt after I left. Now there's one but he's a community support officer, not really a copper more of a glorified traffic warden.

Yup, and he thinks he's tough crap. He doesn't even have bullets in his gun, there's never a mag in it.

1 cop that is a joke, he's not much older than the students and tries to be everyones friend so he receives no respect.
We are raided by the counties Drug control group every year with the dogs, they usually get 2-5 arrests.

Mine was so lazy he didn't file the paperwork to have me and my buddies possession charges dropped. Anyone from BHS was supposed to be allowed one "free pass" per some agreement with the Oakland County PD, and he told us he was going be in court to make sure it happened.
Lazy bastage never showed up.

I graduated high school in '96 and I'd had a police officer in the school on at least a part time basis since gradeschool. The earliest I clearly remember would have been in '85 or '86, and I lived in a pretty nice, largely violence free place. I think they did it because they could afford to.

Never while I was IN school, but after I graduated we had a security guard for a while. I don't know as though it was ever really necessary, since there are less than 500 students here, K-12 in one building.

We had at least one cop there at all time, and other cops just coming around all the time, along with drug dogs although that was rare. We also had several security guards.

My town's police office is located in the elementary school, so they had a cop there most of the time(also a safe chock full of M1's). My middle school/highschool had a state cop there before columbine. After columbine he started wearing his uniform instead of plainclothes. He carried a fully-loaded SIG with an extra mag, pepper-spray, and a telescopic baton that I think he actually used once. We had about 700 students in the middle and high schools combined.

We had 1 or 2 in middle school.
High school had one actual police man. We had this other guy there who was no longer a cop because of some legal issues that they just called security even though he got a car and a gun.

We had one in middle school, his name was officer tacket I had to visit with him he a few times. Now in high school, we have one resource officer and some dumb old security guards. I did get lucky one day, I was just outside the door and one of the security saw me and came to take me to the principals office. Well she asked me my name, luckily she was the nurse at my old elementary school when I went there. So she was like oh Nate I remember you, you were a good kid, I think I will let you off with a warning this time.
