No dude, I played magic, and pokemon. You're supposed to grow out of both of them, otherwise you're that weird dude that can't dress himself and still plays magic.

I used to play I cant even remember how to play anymore, but I remember I had a huge stack of cards. I had some weird thing that was a 9/9. As for colour I'm not sure, but all my cards say deckmaster on them. I remember how I first got into them though. I traded all of my pokemon cards to one of my friends for a huge stack of magic cards.

You didn't even try, how do you know I wont listen? And I've played magic, I know what it is and who it is for. I also am surrounded by nerds all day, and the ones who still play games like magic are the saddest of the bunch. It's a kids game, and playing it at your age is odd. It's good you have fun and all...but you're up there with the kids who wear dragonball z hawaian shirts over longsleeves and have ponytails.

i think i made a thread about Magic...a long time ago.

i had a elf deck, black and white flying deck (vamps and angels), a red deck full of haste (i hated that one), a kick ass zombie deck.

i don't care for blue. too many spells.

Wow, all the hate.  Evidently you have to be a nerd, or six years old to play magic.   Cool, I'm a nerd.  I have over 1500 cards, some which are very valuable, and enjoy playing a red goblin aggro/burn deck, sliver control deck, black rat deck with speed and fear and a few phage combos, a full blue counterspell deck that wins with tidal krackens, and my favorite green white beasty featuring mirari's wake and decree of justice.

My wife and I each have a couple of decks to play with on the odd rainy day. We have an entire closet full of games that I'd never heard of until we bought them at the game store, from Pass the Pigs to like Zertz and Carcassone. There is always a game to play, and usually one that we haven't even tried yet, like the many, many card based games in there. Lunch money, inventors, Killer Bunnies... I'll have to get a picture of it all this weekend.

Ok, sitting in front of the closet I can see these games:

Bandu
Name That Tune 80's
Sequence
Zertz
Yahtzee
Classic Battletech
Balderdash
Crack the Case
Kojack the boardgame
Dracula
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Stratego
Risk
Battleship
Battle of the Sexes
Pente
Trivial Pursuit (no less than five versions)
Arkham Horror (with two expansions)
Backgammon
Othello
Mancalla
Lost Cities
Kahuna
Tsuro (Japanese game of pathways)
Cityscape
Coda
Age of Mythology
Cathedral
Quarto
Mad Gab
Cloud 9
The Inventors
Life
Perudo
Reminiscing
Whad'ya Know?
Zombies!!!
Quibbles
Coloretto
Outlaws
Lawmen
Killer Bunnies (two expansions)
Munchkin (at least five expansions, hundreds of cards)
Skip-bo
Tenjo
GemQuest
DaVinci's Challenge
Frag
Rummikub
Pass the Pigs
Lunch Money
Tripoly
Monopoly
Scientists card game
Phase 10
Uno
When Darkness Falls

Those I can see, and there are more buried in there. I also have dozens upon dozens of roleplaying books from Paranoia to Call of Cthulhu to D&D to World of Darkness spanning several editions.

Hard win.

I used to play Magic. I sucked at it, but enjoyed it. I've still got all my cards. Heck, sometimes my friend and I pull out our old decks, and he stomps me a few times. I may go buy a $3 booster for nostalgia's sake and to see what the new cards are like.

My old 8th grade teacher used to play hardcore. He was like 30 or so at the time, and he definitely wouldn't qualify as the "Dragonball Z Hawaiian shirt over long sleeve with a ponytail" kinda guy. He was awesome. Is it so terrible that some people enjoy it?

They're up to 10th edition now. I make no apologies for knowing this. :)

Anyhow, one of our favorite boardgames right now is Arkham Horror. It's very involved, and it's a lot of fun with a group of 4-6, but how many board games can you play solo? The monster spawn locations and rates are determined by card draws, as are items and dice are used for combat, so you can play the entire thing one-player if you'd like... if that's fun for you.

We were at the game shop looking at games and in their side room a guy was getting ready to start a game of Arkham Horror, so we jumped in and learned how to play. We didn't quite hold out well enough and the ancient one woke up. It came down to a final roll of the die, by me, and we won. (You draw to see which ancient one is threatening the city each game. Not even the development team has ever beaten Cthulhu. He's mean.)

A few people around here have the "Cthulhu for President" bumper stickers. I love those. The tag-line is "Why settle for the lesser evil?"

There were a few guys in high school that I was friends with who played it. One of them mixed me a black deck and I tried a few games, but was awful at it, and didn't care enough to get into it very seriously.

To each his own really, and to crap on others based on hobbies that are different than yours, makes you a pretty epic loser.

The rules can be a bit convoluted sometimes. That's the case with a lot of games on a "grander" scale like this. It's also a time sink and you'd better have a big table.

One of my favorite things about it is that everybody is working together. I do not have the mentality required to gracefully handle heavy competition, so not playing against a person is a nice change of pace. Played with four to five people it's a lot of fun.

I played Magic back in middle school before I quit Boy Scouts. We had tournaments and stuff to pass the time on camping trips. Best deck ever, green/ white(fly) deck. And it bugs me because I can't remember the combo that protects green creatures from one of the other colors. Hell, I barely remember the rules by now.

All we did in scouts was play spades, hearts and Eucher.

I used to play along time ago, I had a Dragon Deck I barley lost with and if I did lose it was to a squirrel Deck. Also had a very very old Angel deck I sold for $400... that was a very very long time ago, I don't want to know what it's worth now.

I never figured out how to play pokemon. I kind of watched the show and based who won off that. And if you had a holographic, best being Charizard, your were basically unstoppable.

Quote Also known as Magic: the Geekening, Magic: the Gathering is a narcotic two-player card game with a fantasy theme, originally adopted by the Saudi Arabian government and Hasbro as an attempt to gradually eliminate Westerners by rendering all their young males lifelong virgins. Rumour has it that it can also turn players into homosexuals upon reaching full circle of card playing / training. Players normally develop a trait called "Nosexforeveritis", which is pretty self-explanatory really...

I played it like the summer between 8th and 9th grade.

Everyone seemed to play it at a camp where I worked, so I kind of jumped in.

There was the old counselors playing too.

By summer's end I threw away all my cards.

Alot of times I would hurt myself, to not seem like such a slaughter, or I would handicap myself with only 5 Health. When I knew that it was either someone extremely young or someone who just started.

funny story, my brother and his fiance just started playing again.  they like the strategy type board games, and my brother decided to try to teach her.  I find it ridiculous, but whatever floats their boat.

nothing like going to visit them, and sitting down with a few drinks and playing magic.  I wonder if i could make it into a drinking game.
