Gentlemen...

I need help...

I need to take a Ford F-150 (not an SVT / Lightning) and I want it to run down Mustangs, Corvettes, etc. Pretty much the crappy sportz carz.

I'm already thinking super-charger, exhaust, and headers...

What else?

Super charger will be enough. That's assuming you have the 5.4L(331) or a 5.8L (351)

Maybe...but I'd be looking at around 100-125 HP increase...and a lot of cars are much, much lighter.

Supercharger, fuel injectors, heads. intake, stroker kit, cam. You would have one nasty truck.

Er...

Any forseeable problems lower? I had a friend that built a Charger to 850 HP and when they took it to the track, they hit the gas, the thing jumped on the rear tires and ripped apart the axles or something...

A F-150 should have a 8.8" rear end. You'll be fine. If you're worried find an old Ford 9" they will handle anything. Since the truck will be a V8 from the start you will be fine. The major components will be somewhat beefy from the get go.

Cool...

Thanks for the advice...few more months...well, acutally a lot more because it'll be after my second deployment (figure around a $30k project)

Edit - I figure if I get the parts and have someone put them in, it'll save me money because they can just put things because getting to the heads and cams will be a pain...

Er

I will never get a small vehicle...it has to be a truck or an SUV

I will never get anything other than a Ford...

I hate Mustangs, the one car from ford I despise.

The F-150 will let me haul a crapload of stuff...trucks are just awesome.

Anyways...this all changes when I get married and need a Honda Civic, but until then...skrew it

For $30K I would buy a GT Mustang used for around $20K, and spend the other $10K in parts.

Why are trucks and suv's better?

Ford is better than chevy but Definately not Dodge.

Foreign >1000 American. Why would you even think otherwise?

Just about every car in the 70's was a good car, the charger is meh like every other chrysler/dodge product. They come out with some design, and every time you look at it, it gets uglier and uglier. Even if when it first came out you absolutely loved it.

Crappy sports cars and corvette do not go together. Your going to need a lot of money in your truck to beat a decent corvette...by that time your an idiot for putting that much money into it anyways.

Good luck getting an F-150 that can "run down" a Corvette. Even if you drop $30k into this project, physics are against you.

Also, IMO, foreign cars > domestic trucks/SUVs.

As for your F-150, i'd get something more like a Chevy Silverado SS.  Better engine and lighter.  Also, there are more parts for their engines.

But since you are stuck on Ford, my advice would be to replace the cooling system, get a good exhaust, a K&N Intake, and a Supercharger (don't get a turbo.  they respond much slower).  then if you want to smoke some Vettes, you would probably want some cam work, a new fuel/ignition system, and an upgraded ECU..  One thing i have to hand it to ford is that their rear ends are rock solid and have a good drive train from the tranny back, so you wouldn't have to replace anything to avoid failure.  I would invest in a better transmission and maybe a short throw shifter if it's manual.  And if you're going to do that, you might as well throw on a lighter flywheel to help your rpms.

You should have no problem with the average Mustang and Camaro V8s, but by the time you pay for parts and labor, you could have bought the new Corvette...

by the way, I'm more of a GM man, and would never pay full price for anything made by 1980's-present ford.  But i guess working on their trucks and cars every weekend is fun for some people....

I don't have much of a preference between brand loyalty, but imo, GM>Mopar>Toyota>Ford in the modern domestic truck game...  but it's all good, i suppose.

Epic failure a f150, jeez good luck getting it keep up with any car a new v6 mustang should be able keep up even with a supercharged truck due to aerodynamics and weight. If you want a true sleeper any GM 3800 s/c vehicle is a start. Would be cheaper to upgrade also. Heck a old dodge avenger would even be a good bet against using a truck.

I really don't think it would in a truck plus trucks are heavy on the nose light on the rear and it weighs more then a car it probably beat it but not by much. Trucks don't make good quarter mile racers compared to cars.

But the profits from toyota go to japan where it is spent their so foreign car. Also most parts in a toyota are made overseas.

How come you dont just get a Lightning then?  If thats what your looking for, Ford truck, 2 seater, but, you can always stick stuff in the back.  I absolutely love lightnings.  I looked into them, I wanted a beat up one to work on, they are expensive.  The last generation body style is the one like like, theyre like $10,000 usually.

I have a 1997 Ford Explorer Sport, it has a limited edition package of the 4.0 L SOHC Cologne Engine in it(There are 2, 4.0L engines, but the SOHC one pushes about 250 HP, Fords estimates were off a bit, Dyno Testing says its higher than what Ford says), and they used them in Mustangs.  Last I heard, they still are putting them in the new Mustangs with some slight modifications.  I think something like that would even be better than using a bigger pickup.  Im sure you could use some of the Mustang performance parts on an engine like mine.

**Edit** Ford says 220 HP, private sites say more about 250 HP.

So did Chrystler/DodgeMercury vehicles cease to be American when that company was bought by Daimler?

Does that mean that Lamborghinis are actually German cars, and Landrovers are Indian cars?

And, of course, all "American" cars have lots and lots of "Japanese" parts.

I think this national distiction on vehicles is a bit blurry...

I find most people who own full sized trucks tend to not actually need to tow anything most of the time, they just like being able to brag that they have a truck.

Compact pickups are all most people with hauling needs really do need.

On that note, I own a Ford Ranger and have only had one problem with it in 3 years of ownership.

Trying to classify one nationality of vehicle vs. another is pretty dumb. There are so many variables there.

According to what?

You know that the most recent statistics rate General Motors quality/resale value as best in the market, right?

Dodge is NOT known for high-quality vehicles. I thought this was pretty common knowledge.

I agree.
Any vehicle as long as its maintained properly will last for decades, no matter what brand or how many miles are on it. Regular maintenance is key in having a long lasting reliable vehicle. Some company's have flaws but they tend to get fixed. Theres no way a company can build a vehicle and never have a single mechanical flaw in its entire production.

I dunno, you can make reasonable assumptions even if they are under new management or produced elsewhere.

Eg:

Ford - American
Honda - Japanese
Lamborghini - Italian
etc...

I didn't say dodge made high quality vehicles. If you compare american to most foreign, none of them make good vehicles.

man, the 350Z (z33 in japan) OWNS the mustang. plus there are WAY more parts for the 350 than there are for the mustang.

Note that the Tundras are made in the US.

The most recent generation of Tacoma/Tundra trucks have been built in the US, and have seen the most complaints (squeaks, rattles, recalls). The 4Runners are still made in Japan, and haven't had such complaints.

Then what foreign cars are you talking about?

GM ranked second in overall quality in '07, right behind Toyota.

My friendīs stock 04 350z eats mustangs every time he races them. Mustangs have slower starts and the 350z picks up speed better and when it hits 3rd gear, by by mustang.

Been posted before, and it is still equally as uninteresting.

Oh wow, the fat dumb Mustang can go faster in a straight line.

Wait until a corner and see who is doing better.
