I was looking in the concert thread and got curious, who here listens to metal besides myself? And name some bands you like
This applies o ALL type of metal, since it is very broad.
Personally I like slipkot(kinda), Avenged sevenfold, pantera, 5finger death punch, and stuff like that
(To all those who care, on July 27th slipknot,disturbed,mastadon,5 finger death punch, underoath, and 36 crazyfists are going to Houston, I think the reliant stadium or something like that...should be crazy huge and awsome....if you like that kinda stuff.)

I like a lot of metal but despise metalcore.
There are some bands that I just can't stand because they are so ridiculously bad but so overrated.

I like some metal, but there is some stuff out there that I cannot stand. I listen to:
atreyu (a few songs on my ipod), Avenged sevenfold waking the fallen cd only, Bullet for my valentine is one of my favorite bands, Chimaira has some good stuff, Disturbed is good, Ill Nino has some really good stuff, I have a few In flames songs, Killswitch engage is good, Mettalica, Mushroom head has some good songs especially when they still had JMan, Shadows fall has some good stuff, I listen to a tiny bit of Slipknot and I'm not sure if Strung Out counts as metal, but they are sweet.

Is there really such thing as bad music? I mean, just because you happen to not like a band that someone else likes doesn't make it bad.
(Not directed towards anyone, just saying.)
Example, I like Linkin Park. Why? I dunno. Just do. Heck, sometimes I find my foot tappin' to a Nickelback song when it comes on the radio. However, their principles blow. I mean recycling music? Wow...

Gonna have to disagree here. While I admit there are many rappers who only talk about derogatory items and have limited skills in speaking, some have an intricit understanding of the english language and are poets to music. Personally I do not like alot of metal because alot of what I hear has alot of screaming or singing i can barely understand. Thats just my opinion though. For the record I do not just listen to rap I also listen to rock. If you want to see what i am talking about go download (legally of course) something like "represent" by Lecrae (the second verse especially). Another good example is "the light" by cross movement. Just some of my personal choices.
Listen to what you like... not what someone likes for you.

Fixed.
Also, Nu-metal isn't bad, just some of it is too "angsty"
Also, for anyone to say Slipknot has no talent... you need shot in the face with a RPG. Though I don't agree with their new stuff, but you listen to "Black Hear" or <female Dog> slap, that's what they were originally did and it was good... Also if you listen to Corey Taylors voice pre 1998 its is actually VERY nice.

Besides, Corey Taylor is far better in Stone Sour. Their latest cd kicks a great deal of ass IMO. Especially the tracks "Sillyworld" and "Your God". Much, much better than Slipknot.

The only thing that bothers me with metal is that there seems to be a new genre of metal every day.
It seems like it's the cool thing to take influence from another genre, change absolutely nothing and then call it a new genre.

How the instruments are played plays a key factor in it. The overall "mood" of the music as well...if you actually listen to the genre of music you'd know, so debating about it with you is not worth it because you do not listen to that music. Sort of like how I do not listen to rap music, so finding a difference between Tupac and .50 Cent.

| ?? BDM is awesome. | I'm not one to be into the more modern US new death metal scene, I like more classic rooted bands. |
Statutory Ape FTW, lol.
I still haven't heard their new CD.
And for those people who said GWAR, their live show is the scariest/most disturbing thing I've ever seen. Ever.

if you think GWAR is scary, you should see them as X-Cops. That is disturbing!

GWAR got banned in Salt lake for throwing a Paris Hilton blow-up doll off the stage.

it all kind of relies on what you constitute as metal...i used to be big into metal when i was younger then i grew out of it...but all of that "nu-metal" stuff is god awful
in flames before reroute to remain...they have sucked terribly for the past 6 years and if you think other wise you suck
soilworks last decent album was natural born chaos, even that was alittle shaky
i would consider dream theater as a progressive metal band so them
pantera, dark tranquillity, the haunting and others that i don't remember

ctchofday: amazing list. I like almost all of them. Right now I'm really into All That Remains, Black Dahlia Murder, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, A Day to Remember, Chiodos, Destroy the Runner, and a few others.

It's like people are trying to forget hardcore punk even existed. I know it's dead but srsly.
Since there's so many non-metal bands being thrown around I might as well pitch in.
Crystal Castles
dude, they're SO metal.

I wonder who you're talking about. Be a man and actually use my name if you are going to attempt to call me out on something. And it's not "my" music, it's music I listen to.
Your hypocritical elitism gets old really fast.

I wasn't referring just to you, but to the entire internet world of scene kids who talk about how the music they like is so brutal. You where just the one who invoked my irritation at it. My Manliness has nothing to do with calling you out online.
Also
My statement or any previous statement on this topic was in no way shape or form hypocritical elitism. Thank you.
