So, it's Boa Feeding Day, and my snake knew it, but I didn't have any mouse. I noticed she was low on water, and I figured I'd handle her a bit before I refilled it. So, like a silly person, I reached in to hold her. Thing was, she was expecting food, and her head was already poking out of her hide log, seeing what was going on. So she lunged, and grabbed my thumb. Good news is, she knew it was me really quick and let go. I know she recognized my "flavor" simply because I've seen her in action, and when she bites something, she normally WON'T let go. She grabbed a sock once, and it took me about 15 minutes to get it from her... Thing was, her teeth are so sharp, and she's was so quick, it didn't really hurt. Don't worry, I disinfected it with alcohol. TL;DR: Feed snakes when they are hungry. Don't try to play with them. Pics!
So I learned a bit of boa constrictor anatomy. They have multiple rows of very sharp teeth that apparently hook backwards. Sucks to be a mouse... Here's proof:

a guy i work with has a snake and he has a separate tank that he puts the snake in for feeding. that way the snake should never connect being in his large tank with eating. ------------- saving the world, one warship at a time. |

Pic updated. Post-blood aftermath. Sorry, no mouse yet.
BTW: She's a 3-4' boa. Rather hard to measure a snake. Anyway, she was hatched last may, so she's about a year old. She'll get around 6' and about as wide as my arm. I guess I should be glad she's still on the small side. At least she knows me. Merc: I do the same thing, but she's young, so she may not be quite used to it yet. Also, she may have just been defending her territory, as I didn't really make my presence known. I just reached in. Either way, it's the first time that's happened, and since she let go rather quick, I'll assume she's not just mean spirited. ------------- Evil Elvis: "Detrevni is definally like a hillbilly hippy from hell"

Nah. It doesn't heal rediculously fast. The teeth are just insanely sharp. To be honest, when she bit me, I was all like, "Hah! She just bit me! Didn't even hurt!" Then I looked back a few seconds later and blood was dripping. My thought process was, "Woah, better clean that up. Or people that just like snakes. Though I can be pretty creepy sometimes! Anyway, I just checked the vid. Bad lighting, can't see anything. I'll get some pics of the snake tomorrow, after she's settled.
