So, in reading Ozwarg's future fail of a thread, I was inspired to ponder a comment he made. Something along the lines of if he had some incurable cancer and had like 5 days to live, he would want to jump out of a plane with no parachute. So I was thinking, what would be your thought process as you were free-falling? Say the same scenario applies. You're going to die in like 5 days, so you jump out of the plane. Why this particular brand of death? Well, you have time to think and reflect on your decision, but it's irreversible. Skydiving, in the first place, is a very different experience from what I'd thought it would be. It doesn't feel like you're falling. Then, normally, the chute opens and it is very quiet. If you're tandem you can speak at a normal level and hear each other. Wind, lots of wind, but otherwise you're just hanging there with a great view.
So the sensation I think would be pretty calming. Once you had decided to die, and it was inevitable, I'd think it would be pretty serene. -------------

I think it would be my choice because: A: I always wanted to sky dive. B: Since I'm going to die anyway, might as well make someone else clean up the mess. ------------- ? |

My probable thinking from 0.000000001 seconds after I left the plane onwards: "Bad idea, what the hell was I thinking?" "I should have at least waited until the 5th day." "I should aim for a river or lake.*" "Crap, crap, crap, crap, crap . . . this sucks." *Not because I think it would lessen the impact sufficiently to ensure survival but because it might prevent the first responders from realizing I wet myself on the way down." -------------

I don't think I like this idea, because your 'oh crap' mode would kick in, and you'd end up pulling the cord regardless of if you really wanted to bite it or not. ------------- ? |

Id probably point myself downwards, and do what I could to maximize speed. Then Id aim for a crowded street. Can you imagine walking down the road, and all of a sudden a body slams into the ground 5 feet infront of you at top speed? What a mess. |

Depends on how you look at it. I'm trying to imagine what I would be thinking. Sure there's the serenety of flying, but what would you feel, seeing the ground come at you at frightening speeds? Depends on HOW you'd die in the 5 days to begin with.
If it was peaceful, in my sleep, I'd just live the 5 days. But if pain got progressively worse, then yes, I'd end it. -------------

i think id want to do it over the ocean and land on a cruise ship or into an amusement park near the parachute ride. But i think id buy/rent/steal a very fast sports car, modify it have extra fuel tanks and run flats, then take the record for the longest police chase, hopefully with it ending when i die. |
