I just thought I would thank everyone to spending the past 8 years with me. I feel almost family with you guys, I know your religious stances and your political views, some personal things, and some things I didnt really want to know...
But, its been real fun. The admins are kinda like the uncle everyone talks about, but isnt allowed to come to the family reunion.
You've all kept me entertained when I was bored, and on the edge of my seat with stories. I've laughed, I've well... I guess I've just laughed.
So thanks again. Feel free to post any fun stories over the years.

You don't need a mullet to be a redneck, but you are if you have one.
Like a rectangle is a square, but a square is not a rectangle
Decent definition:
Typically, rednecks live in rural settings. They avoid urban settings.
They are proud of their pick-up trucks or older cars and stick with
them despite rising gas prices.

Man, i've been comming here since about 3 forums ago. Crazy when you think about it.
and you kids bickering about redneckism need to shut it; this isn't your thread. Although, your presence here adds to the family reunion type feel that was started from the beginning. You are like the family members who started drinking way too early and decided to be honest with one another at the most innapropraite time.

It amuses me how anyone who openly expresses a shred of patriotism is landed on with both feet by people who outwardly respect nothing but their own opinions and regard different points of view as inferior thought.
Kudos.

I'm not sure this is an accurate assessment.
I have no problem with patriotism. I have a problem with those who believe that criticizing one's home country is the same as disliking it.
Whenever somebody says "I don't like 'this' about America", there is always the kneejerk reaction from some quarters that "well, if you don't like it here, then you can leave." As if "I don't like 'this' about America" is the same as "I don't like America."
Beyond being simply wrong and silly, what this attitude does is actively declare that criticizing America is somehow bad, when the opposite is true. The USA is a country built on criticism. Criticizing our leaders, our government, our policies, and each other is what we do, and what helps us improve.
This type of bravado "patriotism" is in fact not only not patriotic at all, but distinctly un-American. Criticism is as American as apple pie - shutting down dissenting views is as American as Stalin.

This is a double edged sword you know. Criticizing is one thing, assaulting your opponents is another. I'm not saying you're guilty of it, but it happens a lot around here. From BOTH sides. Patriotism, to me is looking at the bad, but still realizing the good. Far too often, I see some of the 'esteemed' members here looking past any good, seeking out the bad, blasting it to epic proportions, then beating the hell out of everyone else with the negatives.
And it amuses me.

I knew I should have stopped before the last phrase, but I just couldn't help myself in the face of a witty parallel. But, you are right - it was clearly hyperbole at best. Mea culpa, and no insult intended.
