There was a math teacher in the school I worked at while student teaching who had 'pi' tattooed on his leg. After that discussion, the teachers started talking about/showing their own tats, and with the exception of one pretty attractive woman, it was a pretty disturbing experience. I never ate in the teachers lounge again, nor did I share my own ink.  ------------- ? |

I got one done on my shoulder, and it didn't really hurt much at all, and I'm a guy whose threshold of pain is halfway down the basement steps. My advice to anyone is to put serious thought into what you're going to get, find something you really, really like, then put it somewhere you can't see every day. You actually forget that its there, so if your tastes change, or you decide later that you hate it, 6 days of the week you won't even think about it. I'm contemplating my second one, but can't find something I like enough. I'll end up getting a fireman's cross in a few years- but I've only been on the department for like 2 years now, and that's sort of cheesy to do. I figure after I've got somewhere between 5 and 10, then I'll get one of those. I really can't decode in an immediate second though. ------------- ? |

I don't think I'll ever get a tattoo, but if I were to get one it would have to be something I really did care about, a particular turn of phrase.
One of my favorites is from Samuel Beckett: "To know nothing is nothing, not to want to know anything likewise, but to be beyond knowing anything, to know you are beyond knowing anything, that is when peace enters in, to the soul of the incurious seeker." I think "Incurious Seeker" is one of the most interesting phrases/titles I've come across. I would get that below a stylus of some kind, perhaps a feathered pen. -------------

It's like someone dragging the pointy end of a paper clip on your skin. It really isn't that bad, once you get the first one you will want more. The first one I got was within 1/8th of an inch away from my nipple, so that was the only real painful part. |

I have 4. One being a meat tag. the others are are covered up by clothing, and one in particular goes around my left nipple. The meat tag hurt the most, it's under my left arm on my rib cage. ------------- Innocence proves nothing FUAC!!!!! |

"EXIT ONLY" And tattoos do sting. Personally, I have always been a little drunk when I had mine done, so the pain was less noticeable. I found that they stung at first, than you kind of numb up after a couple of minutes, but if it takes too long it really starts to get annoying. Stay away from areas going over bone like wrists/ankles and it isn't too bad. ------------- "When I grow up I want to marry a rich man and live in a condor next to the beach" -- My 7yr old daughter. |

I have my family's cross from the isle of Iona in the center of my back. It covers and area of 8"x11" and I don't regret getting it and never will. I think if you are going to get a tattoo it should be something near and dear to you. I can't stand all the people who go get tattoos just because they think they're "pretty" or "cool". When they do that, it just winds up looking like someone doodled all over your body. I've seen people with 15 showing tattoos that have no relevancy to each other and are just randomly placed on their bodies; it looks like crap. I'm going to go back eventually and get quarter sleeves done. On one arm I'll have my family's crest and motto: "Salus per Christum" which will have the heraldry ribbons trailing towards my back where they will twine into celtic knot work to blend in behind the cross. On the other shoulder I'll have my Mother's family's crest emblazoned with the same effect from it's ribbons and feathers. ------------- <Removed overly wide sig. Tsk, you know better.> |

i plan on eventually getting my last name tattooed from the back of my neck to my tail bone, now all i have to do is lose a few more brain cells to convince myself that it wouldnt hurt as bad the current one i have. -------------
