hey

im trying to decide what gun to get. its between 98custom or the A5, im mostly into the A5.

Im going to play alot in the wood but also a bit at a local paintball place inside.

I hear that a new barrel might be good if getting the A5 so any tips for an average upgrade for the A5 would be nice. Also i already have two 20oz c02 tanks so im thinking to either play with them or getting a cheap  air system if that would be better? thanks for tips

You know, they're both good markers and each have their merits, so either way you go can't go wrong. Getting a new barrel's usually the first thing on my mind when queried about upgrades as stocks are never good with the exception of the X7, that's what I heard. I own a 98C and I've beaten it up numerous times since back in '02, almost to hell a few of those, but she keeps on humming for me. 98's are durable, solid, reliable markers that cared for in the correct manner will serve it's owner well for years to come. Well, any TIPPMANN really. I know when I finally get my hands on an A5 to mod, even after completion it'll still be 2nd banana to my 98. They're THAT good. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Personally, I would go with the 98 because if you are looking into getting into tournaments than you will then have the option of either center feeding, putting on a cyclone, or leaving it as is. You will also be able to add in an egrip, or ebolt if you see the need. But for now I would just go with the 98 and upgrade your barrel, after that go play with it, and see what happens if you find you need someting upgrade it.

I was faced with this choice and I decided on the 98 Custom because I wasn't sure If I wanted a cyclone and I figured that I would rather buy a 98 because it was cheaper and then I would have more money for upgrades. As for upgrades the first thing you will want to upgrade is the barrel, I chose the smartparts linear barrel because it was cheap and I am happy with it, but most people here will recommend the J&J Ceramic or the Lapco Bigshot.

I have a 98 and pefer it to an A5. The 98 can have a cyclone put on it and many upgrades for A5 are on the 98. So if you want a cyclone I'd get the A5, otherwise I'd get a 98.

I will be the odd man out so far.  I sold my 98 for an A5 and have never been unhappy with the decision.  it feels bette to me and the cyclone on there already is just an added bonus.  I also prefer the fact that I dont have to have the front grip on there and the design in general looks better.  As for the performance of the gun it has shot true for 5 years or so now.  Really they are very similar guns.  If you like the cyclone though you should just go with the A5 since you wont save any money on anything if you by the cyclone seperately.
