you know you go into a store thinking "yeah, I'm going to come in here maybe buy something small and thats it." Then you come out side the proud owener(registerd under your name) of a AK-47.
Bought her for only $359.86
 Romainain AK47
 quick picture.
Me outside Cabelas(place I bought it)
So now, my WGP-Sniper project is a on a very quick halt for awhile so I can pay for some rounds and see what this little thing can do.

The stock is pretty nice. I really haven't seen to many Dogleg stocks on AK's but it will probably be replaced for a collapsable stock.

ah, my mistake. those are supposed to be pretty well manufactured. my dad was telling me if i get an AK (hopefully this summer) not to get one made from china or vietnam or some other country that never made them too well...according to him when he was overseas they were made out of tin cans and jammed like crazy; which incidentally saved his friends life. but thats another story

Da hui: My Dad wanted to show me a .50cal BMG they had, and I was looking around at some of the guns they had on the sales floor and saw a Mini-14 I liked(didn't like the price tag) and the AK47 was one of the last guns I looked at, then I looked at the price tag and started to sweat. I knew this was fairly cheap for an AK, I have looked at some earlier and they were running around $400-$460 so I knew this was a steal of a price. After putting it down and looking at some other stuff(still looking at other guns) I literally saw atleast 4 other people pick it up and mess around with it, and "talk to the wife/gf" but after a little conversation they put it back, so I told my Dad it's either I buy it now or it will be sold in the next half hour. Then After I pretty much tell the sales clerk "I want this gun" They set it aside and I had to fill out all the "fun" NICS paper work. I really thought I was going to be "delayed" since I'm buying an Assault Rifle in a different state(I'm from Wyoming and bought it in UT) but after around 20min I came back to the desk and the guy said "oh yeah, your all ready to go, just go tell Jessica your the one with the rifle on the desk." Then I get their and she says "oh... your the one with the AK, we've had some people try to buy it. One guy tried to buy it from us for $650". Then I smiled and pulled out the cash and walked out with it.
GI Joe: Yeah, Chinese/Vietnamese/krinkov/Bulgarian aren't the greatest in the world... yeah its an AK and you can change alot in them, but alot of times when you "shoot a chinese" model you'll just notice that something feels... "Cheap" about it.
The only thing so far I don't like about this AK is the magazine is loose(It's probably just the mag though)

$350 was cheap in your area for an AK? I find decent models in local places (many unused) for under $300. One of my closest friends just bought a Romanian version for $250, never been fired.
On another note. I will be getting my next few rifles from a C&R dealer that is a friend's father. Unused Mosin Nagant in very excellent condition for $99. I am also looking at the 1952 excellent to very excellent M-1 Garand for $600.
|

Date Posted: 02 June 2008 at 3:30pm
$99? Hm. I saw a Mosin for $89 yesterday(though it did look a little used)
But Yeah, AK's in this area are almost non-existent, lots of people do own SKS and AR-15's in this area not so much AK's.

These are World War II made Russian 91/30s. Unused and in very excellent condition. The best way to go is through a dealer like this. I've also seen a German Mauser in very good condition with the Nazi Eagle and Swastika imprinted on it for $260.

AK's are great guns. They shoot fantastically, they use relatively cheap and readily available ammo and there is no reason not to own one if you are interested in shooting semi auto rifles.
At most normal ranges you will be accurate enough to hit the bullseye. You probably can't reliably overlap the holes like you can with some AR's but it will be great for plinking.
The AK can also be slicked out for use in 3 gun matches if you shoot competitively. Hell i've used unmodified AK's in 3 gun shoots. I've also used G3's, R4, R5, R6's, M1 carbines, an MP5 and a Springfield M1. All in varying degrees of modification.
There is even the self defence aspect of owning a rifle.
Back on topic I've never seen a stock like that. I quite like it, but i'd probably also change it. Either for a fancy plastic one or an original wood one. Congrats man. Nice rifle. I'd love one like it.
On a side note, and remember i come from quite a conservative place when it comes to guns, flashing it in the parking lot like that, smart? I know you are outside a gun shop, but still?

my main reason was collectible reasons, plus I've always wanted to own an AK47 since I was young. I found them fascinating when studying Weapons for a American History Class. The AK47 is really what Russia is about, The cheapest, crudest method, But extremely effective and any conscript could learn how to use it.

I like the handguard and that muzzle break.
Not too keen on sticking AR style stocks on AK's. Not too keen with AR style stocks being over every weapon. While the multi position is handy, I prefer solid stocks. I find they balance the weapon better.
Still, be sure to post pics when it's finished.

so yeah, went out and shot her this afternoon, and my ears are still have a small ring to them(forgot to use ear plugs)
The gun shot fantastic, at about I'd say 100 Yards or more I was getting much better groupings then I imagined. I even took out a small 20oz Water bottle from about 150 yards(took 6 shots to dial it in) The thing really isn't all the bad, I also was using Wolf ammo which if you don't know wolf, it uses Steel casings, not Brass and the stuff really sucks but was really cheap got 6 box's of 20 for only $40(yeah I should buy bulk, but meh?) It was raining slightly so I really didn't want to bring along a camera. So... no pics this time!
Also, KBK after shooting it, I really don't think a Collapsible stock is for me, I'm going to see how long some Fixed stocks are and if they are the same length as the one I'm using then I'm just going to go with a Black Stock, and as far as the Recoil buffer? ehhh... The thing was very well under control, unless I was on full-auto(which I'm not) I wouldn't see a point, the recoil isn't even bad. Though I still am getting the Muzzle Break, it did have quite a "flash" on it, which I didn't like. Also, I really don't like the 30rd. Magazine. I'm probably going to look for a shorter mag, the most I put in my Magazine was 15rounds, I'd usually just put around 10 if that, I've been looking on the interwebs for a 20rd. but most I found got bad reviews, and I don't want to spend $50 for a Dragunov 10rd. Mag for $50 So I may just deal with my 30rd for awhile. Also, I'm seriously thinking of putting a 30mm Red dot on her now, the Irons that are on them are fine, but I think with a 30mm sight I could do a bit better for a bit farther distant shots.
Though I am not turning it into a Rifle by any means, just that I don't like to simply spray my ammo all over the place, and I think with a little bit more time with it, I think I might be able to get some 1/2 decent distant shots with it.

having never owned one, just shot other people's take the following with as much salt as required.
The recoil buffer isn't there to tame felt recoil is it? It is there to moderate the account of energy the frame has to deal with, preventing wear and tear on the firearm. Now there will be two schools of thought about that as well. IIRC your rifle has a stamped not milled reciever, no? Now i'm sure some will say this makes the recoil buffer a must, and i'd agree it is probably weaker than a milled one, but have no idea what this weakness would translate to in real life. If it isn't too expensive i'd say get one. Try it out. Throw it away if you don't like it. But i also can't see it having any real effect on felt recoil.
But i could be talking out my ass.
And just to prove how slow my brain works sometimes, the original stock you got, is it an RPK stock?
About the red dot. Go for it. How strong is that plastic handguard with rails? Will it be solid and stable enough for optics? If it is get one and you can mount pretty much any damned piece of glass you want :)
Would Sagia rifle mags fit? I know they make lower capacity mags for their hunting rifles, but have zero experience with them.
Glad to hear you enjoyed your new purchase. Many happy trips to the range.
