| None the less, it's was still the most highly anticipated album of '08, not unlike other pieces of popular entertainment like Halo 3, GTA IV, or various movies that get threads made all the time. I got it on itunes at like 12:05am and it's already on the the number 1 spot of itunes, which in my opinion is thread worthy.

Most highly anticipated album of '08? Out of all genres? Why haven't I heard of it then? Why isn't Yahoo 9 abuzz about it, or my browser's "top searches" flooded with 'lil wayne' references? So its top in itunes, because its new? or because its awesomeness transcends all else?
I grow weary of music fanaticism.
Plus, so its thread worthy...make the thread worth reading, not just drop your opinion on us like its gospel. Tell us why, tell us more....give us something to read rather than jam up the boards with half sentences that are supposed to be indicative of the greatness of an album half of us don't even know anything about.

Most highly anticipated album of '08? Out of all genres? My bad, it was officially the most anticipated of '07 before parts of it got leaked, I'm not sure where it stands in '08.
"Despite his album leaking and the music industry
suffering from an overall decline in sales, some experts are expecting
Wayne to sell a million in his first week. It's easily the most anticipated hip-hop LP since 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin' five years ago. "~ VH1
"Tha Carter III" was the most anticipated rap album of 2007 before
leaks pushed the release date into 2008 and Wayne started working anew
on the album. The delays hardly diminished the anticipation; in fact,
it increased as Lil Wayne continued to turn heads with his mix tapes
and countless guest turns on other people's songs."~ Washington Post
Why haven't I heard of it then? I never saw one advertisement for it anywhere (except music stores) either. He kind of alludes to it in his previous songs and there was some stories about it in music magazines about when some of his songs got leaked a few weeks ago, and then he made a new/official release date. You probably wouldn't have heard about it unless you listen to his music and hang out with people who keep up on music news.

That right there my friend means it was that "highly anticipated".
I catch some MTV and never heard of it, I catch some crappy radio and never heard of it, and I am on the internet alot and never heard of it.
I am not saying it sucks, I am just saying it isn't that big if only people who listen to it know anything about it.
Also, top on Itunes is nonsense. Last night I downloaded like 200 songs nowhere near itunes, and I wasn't the only one.

A large mass of people looking forward to the album's release would make it highly anticipated, advertisement and hype has nothing to do with it, as long as you still have that group of people wanting it. I would assume most people who listen to this type of music (rap, hiphop, ect) knew about it, hence the top seller.
But anyways, I completely respect your opinions, your entitled to it and I'm not going to try and sit here and convince you MY M00ZIK'Z B3TT3R TH3N URZ!!1!. I honestly could care less, I was just excited about it and knew a few people on here would be too.

If you think something topping the charts makes it good, you should have your ears punctured with a pencil.
Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Clay Aiken, Kelly Clarkson, Duran Duran, Avril Lavigne, and more all made #1.
It doesn't mean CRAP.

98% of what I listen to is rap, and even I can honestly say that Lil Wayne is not that good...
I don't understand why everybody says he is "the greatest rapper alive" (yes, lyrics, I know). He's clearly not. There are so many better rappers out there. His lyrics really aren't that good, although occasionally he comes up with a clever punch-line. Heck, half the time he doesn't even sync his lyrics with the beat.
The only thing I can say that Lil Wayne has to separate himself from other mediocre rappers is the unique sound of his voice.
*waits for fellow forumer rap fan, Gatyr, to chime in his opinion*

I love his lyrics, he always has something awesome in his songs. I can agree with him not always matching lyrics with his beat, but he still can pull it off so it picks up the flow again and still sounds good. And like you said Rapid, his voice is sick. There's just something about his songs, it just fits and it all comes together well in my opinion.
But I'm curious, who do you think is better? I'm not sure he's the best rapper alive, but he's definitely up there in my opinion..he's been putting out a lot of music (singles, leaks, and obviously the album) lately which has him fresh in everyone's mind also, which you can't really say about too many of the other great guys still alive.

If you base your opinion on Lil' Wayne based on the radio, your opinion is pretty much void. Lil' Wayne is considered one of the best because of his freestyles and what is usually on the radio is him being featured, not really all him. Even if you don't believe he is the best (I don't either), you still have to give into the fact that he is in the Top 5. The guy's has damn good lyrics.

If you took it into context, "Spit dat cardiac" makes sense since it relates to him calling himself "young heart attack".
And I do listen to good rap. I don't even listen to Lil' Wayne all that much but that doesn't mean I don't consider him a great freestylist. I enjoy Kanye and Lupe Fiasco more than any other rappers right now. Does that qualify to your "good rap" standards?

He calls himself "the young heart attack" and says when he rhymes he causes "cardiac" referring to cardiac arrest. Basically saying, when he raps he shocks people into a cardiac arrest. I know you understand this, and probably just instigating by arguing minute details due to Wayne's lack of proper sentence structure.

2 good chunks of songs: I am the beast
Feed me rappers or feed me beats
I'm untamed, I need a leash
I'm insane, I need a shrink
I love brain, I need a leech
Why complain on easy street?
I don't even talk, I let the Visa speak
and I like my sprite easter pink
And my wrist special par but the mule is cooler
I have more jewels than your jeweler
Touch and I will bust your medulla
That's a bullethole, it is not a tumor
Red light rarely stop your rumors
I stay on track like a box of Pumas
Now just r-r-rock with Junior
I am the little big Kahuna, y'dig?
Okay I'm out 'chea you <negroes> done started it ya ordered it
Bullet find a home in ya arteries pardon me
But them <negroes> won't touch not a part of me bet on it
Them <negroes> belong in a sorority ain't that a <beach>
Burn they bodies up for the authorities no evidence
You gon' stop ' wit' them warriors from New Orleans
And I really think that it'd be better if
I just hit ya block wit that baretta and hop out and let her rip
Let her bang let her bust etcetera etcetera
You <negroes> is scared of the southern part of America
Here it come got a gun never caught without one
<negroes> wanna ball so I guess I gotta bounce 'em
Smokin' on a ounce of that <poop> from the mountains
People say I need to stop no I need a counselor
And I'm here you are gonna need a chopper
And I'ma need a lawyer and you gon' need a doctor
Some short one liners: - am a vegetarian, man. I only eat beats, wear a lot of carats, and I smoke the best greens
-it is lil weezy they cannot see me they are like Stevie -You negroes suck like tony romo, no homo, And im all about my money, i get paid for promo yeaa, -some people ask me why, I dont wear shirt n tie, because they put that on u when u die -I'm chillin like a scarecrow lookin for some brain -I wear my gun like a girdle, bulletproof car got me feelin like a turtle. -I can fit a hundred thousand up in these jeans, big stacks, pockets on creatine. -I get head in the strangest places, two at the same time, call it changing faces" -dear mr. toilet, I am the <poop> -Even deaf beaches say hi to me, she tell her blind friend and she say i gotta see

And I aint gotta lie when I tell you im the illest,
My flow is nasty, like C Y Phyllis,
Self-made G, and them **edited**es know the business.
Relying on rap, but in the kitchen I'm a chemist,
And when I was 5, my favorite movie was the Gremlins
Aint got <poop> to do with this, but I just thought that I should mention,
You looking for devine and the little intervention,
And them birds don't fly, without my permission,
I'm probably in the sky, flying with the fishes,
Or maybe in the ocean, swimming with the pigeons, see my world is different,
Like Dwayne Wayne,
And if you want trouble, <girl doggie>, I want the same thang,
you dont say what your favorite childhood movie was in a song....you cant swim with pigeons...you dont do that <3

Just because you sell a ton of cd's doesn't make you bad either. I'm not arguing someone's opinion that they don't like Wayne, but just because you don't like him doesn't mean he's bad. He just doesn't appeal to your tastes.

I never said he made good music. As a matter of fact, in the post before, I said good music or not.
Whether music snobs like it or not, he's filthy rich doing whatever he's doing, so for the majority of the music listeners, something he's doing is appealing, and he's rich because of it, and if that means making bad music gets you money, I'm sure lil wayne couldn't care less.... And neither would I...
