Very, very nice my friend. Theres actually a white Elise that lives near a friend of mines place. Whenever we're driving around that area, we'll detour by it just to stare . The first time we saw it, we actually parked the car and walked over to take photos for a few minutes. Glorious machines, Lotus's are.
EDIT: Here's those photos.

Meh. There are a few around here I see rather frequently. Compared to a lot of the other cars people buy, they aren't that exclusive or expensive.

Who cares if they aren't expensive? Thats precisely what I love about them. They perform better than most cars out there for double the cost. They don't screw around with luxuries. They go for a pure sports car, and I respect that mentality. (Thats not to say I hate all cars that are comfortable and practical)
Also, they look amazing IMO.

My van isn't fun to fix. A classic van would be fun to fix. My van is difficult to fix. A classic van (when I have the parts) would be easier to fix. My van doesn't allow for comforts (it's small). A camper van allows for comforts (c'mon, it's a freaking camper). My van doesn't have classic "spirit." A classic VW does (if you have to ask, you wouldn't understand). My van doesn't cater to the road trips I one day want to take. A VW camper van would.
Makes sense to me.
Besides. If you can't fix an old VW motor with a coat hanger and some duct tape, you don't deserve the VW. :)

You joke, but it's not that simple. I almost bought a 73 vw van, but decided against it when I looked at it logically. Heck if you have to drive up a steep enough hill, you practically have to reverse up it just to make it. Also, they tend to overheat, a lot. And trust me, I know about the "spirit" I have a print of one on my wall. Its just a poor move.

Thats only partly true for me. Scarcity makes up a tiny bit of attractiveness. Top Gear actually put this in context quite well. In the UK, the Ford Mondeo is rarer than the Aston DB9 coupe. Its hardly a more attractive car.

Yeah, ride quality is sacrificed for the unbelievable handling.
I've done a few autocrosses in my WRX in the Tampa Bay area. You can do it rather cheaply too. I have a buddy who is in the local BMW car club and when its auto-x season they use a decommissioned air field and let the cone-bashing commence. $20 or so lets your run your car. It's actually a fun day: get up kinda early, cruise to the field/site, have a nice lunch at the site if they supply one, chat with the other guys/gals at the 'track', set up your car, go through tech inspections and run what ya brung! It's kinda like a good, short scenario game day. And, if you're lucky, you get to see some nice cars.
I'd really like to take my car to Sebring for a http://www.nasaproracing.com/hpde/index.html - HPDE day, but that's another $300 that I don't have just lying around

Yeah, it's a one way public toll road with no speed limit. They close it on racedays and such, but you can pay per lap if you want to give it a shot. Also, you can rent lots of nice cars there, I just dont know if I would be able to, only being 21 and all.

I keep hearing people say that, but I certainly don't think that is true. The ride in a Lotus is perfectly comfortable - for a serious sports car. And unlike a lot of over-customized cars out there, it has appropriate wheels/tires, which helps. A Lotus is a LOT more comfortable than a Z with lo-pro tires, for instance.
What makes long rides in a Lotus rough are the seats, which are not too comfortable in long stretches, but unless you are driving for several hours you won't notice.
The only way you think a Lotus is uncomfortable is if you are comparing it to a Buick.

Nothing new to me, Sir. I'm well aware of all that.
If you read my post, I stated that I'd rather pay roughly half the MSRP of the Toyota-hearted Lotus Exige S on a STi or EVO.
Nice chart though...

Good point, and I'm inclined to agree

Meh, I'm not into those kind of cars. They just aren't my thing. I'll stick to fast in a straight line with prehistoric suspension.

I may have had you in mind... While I am not a fan of your choice in vehicle, I can respect a man who knows what he likes. Buicks just epitomize the type of ride that I can't stand, that's all.

Spoiled little rich kids. My very first ride was a red minivan that belonged to my parents. I drove their purple minivan for 3 years after they got rid of it, two of the doors didn't open from the inside, and the back deck didn't open at all. And I was quite happy with it. "Hello, point B, I'm from Point A" And I didn't give a whit for what I looked like getting there.

I'm the exact opposite.
For me, fun is not a straight line. I much prefer hauling ass down a curvy road than I do flat out pedal to the medal in a straight line*.
* I love Mustangs, but I'd rather have a AWD Turbo four door import.

Somebody had a black Elise at the private community I worked at last summer, he nailed a speed bump we'd just put in doing about 40mph(speed limit was 15 due to winding roads) and much cursing ensued. I don't know what the damage was, but it sounded bad. I like the windy mountain roads around here (ok, they suck in winter) and cars set up to enjoy them. Going fast in a straight line just gets you a bigger speeding ticket, and if you hit a deer/moose/bear at high speeds, it gets you in a world of hurt.

It shouldn't be that bad really, it's a small light car, we have after market high preformance control arms in the back. And we upgraded the front control arms to have larger brakes and heavy duty springs along with a heavy duty sway bar.

Very, very nice my friend. Theres actually a white Elise that lives near a friend of mines place. Whenever we're driving around that area, we'll detour by it just to stare . The first time we saw it, we actually parked the car and walked over to take photos for a few minutes. Glorious machines.

I hear you about the AWD. Finished rebuilding the teachers 1995 Eagle Talon TSI. Turbocharged and AWD. 2 door. Thing handled like it was on rails. We were taking sharp turns at 60 + MPH with ease.
