Celica GTS. Has a 2zz Engine with VVTL-I. It has lift which is much like Honda's VTECH and is pretty fun to drive. Not to mention the Celica's handle like they are on rails.
This has the factory "agressive package". They are awesome cars.

If I was in your shoes, and with the outlook of the economic status of the country, I'd go back to the ford. The engines will run until they're destroyed. Hell, if they're maintained the engines will outlast the bodies, and the smaller car will keep you from being raped every time you have to get gas.

Buy one of the new focus coupes... Or buy a focus without an engine and drop a V8 in it for the ricer/drifting crew to get wrecked with.

Agreed. We have a corolla, and I love that thing. Of all the cars I've driven of that calibre it is by far my favourite. It handles amazingly well, has good zip and is good on gas. I fully recommend looking into a corolla (heck new ones are $15k or so, so you should be able to find one)
Snipa69 is a corolla expert as well, pm him/ ask him if you have questions.

A corolla would be a great choice. Reliable and good fuel efficiency. Just don't buy any econo car because it is cheap. Check safety ratings first. The newer Corollas should do fine in that aspect as well though.

If you go the Corolla route, get the one with the optional side air bags. They are harder to find, but if you've ever seen one get wrecked without one, You'd never ride in another 'rolla again.

How bout looking at a off lease VW Jetta/Golf TDI
My family has had a bunch of TDI's of almost every Gen and none of em have been any trouble. My dad has a 2006 Jetta Wagon TDI, my brother had a 2003 Golf 4dr TDI (HEAVILY MODIFIED) and myself have had a 1986 Golf Diesel with the 1.6L Naturally Aspirated and my current car a 2004 Jetta TDI. My 86 had 350,000kms on it with VERY few problems. My 2004 has been mostly trouble free for 125,000kms with the exception of a belt tenshener, and a fuel Pump. Both items were warrantied and both i was able to drive the car still.
All of the cars have averaged around 47-48mpg but can be seen getting as good as 60mpg driving nicely. I regularly get 900kms to a tank of fuel on my 2006 and i drive it like i stole it.

VW = Expensive as hell to have fixed.

Yeah the fuel mpg STILL exceeds the extra cost of fuel. Basically you get the MPG of a hybrid but you get better perfomance and a lot easier maintence.
And as i said my family has had 4 differant Diesel VWs. And NONE of them have had much problems to speak of.
MY brothers 2003 was heavily moded and made 150hp and over 230ft/lbs of torque. Thing was FAST but could still get over 1000kms to a tank of fuel and he to never had any problems in 200,000kms.
My Dads car is at 112,000kms and is also problem free with the exception of a hose that fell off for the rear window washer.
and then both my VWs have been great. A few minor ishues with my 2004 and nothing to extrodinary with my 86 (valve cover gasket, CV Shaft, Muffler battery and a Alternator in 350,000kms).
I also should say i am a Mechanic for a living and honestly VWs are pretty easy to work on for reg servicing. Quality wise i am very happy with all of mine.

Hehe, my 84 firebird came from the factory making 150hp and 240 ft/lbs of torque. When I had my carb rebuilt I was getting about 20 mpg city but it's currently closer to 13 mpg due to some modifications. My 305 will never get the fuel economy of that little diesel though, even after I finish toying with that car. Make's me miss my 01 Grand Am a little but once I finish with this car that'll go away quick.

the tC is nice...but you should really check out Volvo you can get a fully loaded 01-02 model S60 for about 10-12k easily in your price range, and maybe even a turbo one I've had no problems with mine, and as long as you maintain it, it'll be good to you. I should get pics of my tC with new rims and smoked out tailights, and painted calipers. I'm going for the more stealthy look because mine is black. So far so good. I'm thinking of getting a new third tail light where the whole thing lights up. Then I will either paint the badges black or remove the tC badge and paint the rest. I want a new all black grill to look like it isn't there. Also need to get some projectors and HIDs and some VRD fogs. I need suggestions of what to do after that for appearance. Right now, performance isn't a main concern because of the warranty.

Thats exactly the point the little VW made just as much power as a stock older V8 in a lighter car and gets well over twice fuel economy.
Now i will say that a VW is not nearly as fun a car as a firebird is but none the less its a very practical car that still fun to drive.
And besides i ride a motorcycle for my Fun and its more fun that any 4 wheeled machine and quicker than most to boot and it only makes 70hp . And it get even better fuel economy than my VW too boot.

false. a TRD supercharged tC can make it into the 250 BHP range. A stage three turbo'ed can make it even further mileage isn't even sacrificed that much. A little research helps buddy.

So much performance can be made out of a tC. You can even make over 500hp easily if you had the time and money. Currently I am also thinking about getting a red racing steering wheel because the black on the stock gets hot. I might get some red/black racing seats for the front so that i can take some weight off. But that is only in time and isn't necessary.

So much performance can be made out of a tC. You can even make over 500hp easily if you had the time and money.

Keyword there is money, by the time you stuff all that stuff onto the TC you could easilly have bought a different car that would make the same power.
| Mostly all you need are some new pistons (not necessary but good) lightened pulley, and a turbo. Also having a new intake, and whole exhaust system starting from the headers all the way to the catback/axleback helps and gives you a nice roar. I would rather have an unexpected car to be pulling all this power over something everyone knows has that power. Also learning about the car is fun. Also I love the platform the tC is on. It has good looks on the outside and great comfort on the inside. The tC is making its way into the race scene very quickly. It's such an easy car to modify that it is cheaper that most.

I agree with Robo. They can be made to be quite fast. Since they are also relatively cheap and roomy inside, they are one of the best coupes out there.
