Was drifting ever = win?
I don't see the attraction of it, its even worse than Nascar, at least in Nascar theres a winner.

And I despise Nascar.

World Rally Championship & Le Mans are the only way to go regarding automobile racing.

I have to laugh at you saying you're laughing but you're really not. Its not a rally at all, its points being awarded on technique. There's no winner, it carries over into the next event. Go drift on another forum.

Rally and Rally-X - that's "drifting" that is worth watching.

I have a buddy that does "vintage racing" - tubes with wheels.  Hope to go watch a race in a couple of weeks.

And (this may shock you) dragracing is growing on me.  I have found myself watching it on TV a fair amount recently. There are actually some interesting angles there.

NASCAR, still no.

Drex, no, not with the Buick. Just wishful thinking. Who knows, I may one day pick up an old Challenger (my favorite muscle car ever) and set it up for track.

Rambino, I don't know what it is about drag racing. I mean, yeah it's just going in a straight line and all, but for me, there's a magic there. It's not so much as trying to beat the other guy to the line, it's seeing how fast YOUR machine can go, and how you can make it faster. There's always faster! You have to know each and every limit to your car, and how long you can push those limits. You have to master the shift and the launch. You're basically racing yourself.

Oh, NASCAR sucks.

Drifting = eh

Track Racing is where its at, whether its a drag, or straight race.

Racing > Drift

though in drift the cars do sometimes look nice, especially Sam Hubinette's Viper.

I prefer Le Mans over any other Race.

Umm... thank you for your thread but I'm pretty sure that nobody liked tokyo drift.

May I also say that drift racing is dumb? And that it will destroy your parent's car? (before, during, and after you crash)

Rambino: drag is cool but there's too much waiting and not enough action (minutes of waiting for seconds of racing)

I like formula one personally. I just don't understand driving around in circles like in nascar for hours on end. Also, nascar has weaker crashes, which we all know, is the only reason people watch racing.

Ironically, I think it is the waiting that makes dragracing worth watching.  That waiting is spent doing background on the drivers, the cars, the teams, and the matchup, and analysis of the previous race, and so forth.

In person this might not work so well, but on TV dragracing is kind of like football - lots of "dead time" to fill with TV goodness.

so much hatin' going on in this forum.

Tokyo Drift was a nice novelty of a movie, and the Fast and Furious movies are enjoyable if you take them with a grain of salt.

NASCAR, few people find it interesting.
Formula 1- So intense, my personal favorite
Drifting- you have to give credit to the drivers, because it's no walk in the park
Drag- if you've ever been to a drag race, you'll fall in love with it.  Nothing beats that smell, or being able to feel the top fuel cars in your chest when they take off
Rally- More interesting to watch, along with LeMans

Also, Drag racing is a bit like sprinting for me, You have to be able to guess when the timer is going to hit green. [I realize you can see it!] Its the ability to time the pedal with the timer in addition to the shifting.. I'm not sure but they have automatic transmissions on the higher end cars because they need to shift faster than a person can do it, hence electronic assistance?

Rally, F1, and some endurance (Le Mans, 24 Hours of Nurburgring, etc.) are my favourite forms of motorsport. Though I don't really like any other kinds. Drag is OK I s'pose, but its just too car-centered. Sure theres skill in the driving, but only for a split second. Theres no driving lines to think about, no pitting time. I'm sure it must be amazing to participate in, but to watch, I just don't see the point.

I only like drag when watching Pinks. Otherwise it gets boring without all the things breaking down and the fighting between the 2 teams. Drifting is nice to watch because it takes skill and not everyone realizes how hard it can be with the angles that people create. Rally is the best because it has a bit of everything. They drift, the jump, they take turns, they go fast in straight aways.

I enjoy drag racing.

My uncle is an engineer that designs fuel-intake systems for drag cars, mostly Funny-Car, and talking with him has informed me of just how absolutely super-technical EVERYTHING is on a drag car engine is. The things are marvels of modern internal combustion design.

Drag racing is better in person. And I'm not talking top fuel. At the high school nationals a few of us got the insurance waiver signed for the arm band that let you in the pits. Nobody but a few kids from my school and myself used them. It's awesome standing next to a 800 HP muscle car while it's doing a burnout in the water box while staging to race. You can feel the ground shake. It's awesome.

lol at the kids trying to talk cars.

Drag racing is always popular.  The beauty is that you don't need anything incredibly special to drag race.  It's also about the safest automotive sport ever.

Rally cross is awesome.  Nuff said.  However, it's not as easy to televise.   The track ralleys are incredible, and I wish they where televised as much as nascar.

Nascar is boring, but it's still a good form of racing in my own opinion.  Keep in mind, the cars have no driving assists besides power stearing.  And they do race on road courses, not just around in circles.  Also, it's more of a team sport than most other forms of racing.

Indy is always incredible.  Also a team sport.

Drifting requires a lot of skill.  However, it's a novelty.  Drifting will never be as popular as the other forms of racing and it's just a flare fad.  Sure, it's fun to get sideways and leave a trail of smoke behind you like a badass, but if you think you have to have a special car to do that, you'd be wrong.  Also, drifting is slower than just running the track.  Also tears up the cars a lot more than you'd imagine.

All in all, Rally is where it's at.  Autocross too, because I consider that amature ralley.

Yes, and some people put all the words in their sentences when they write them out also.  (Which is what DeTrevni was referring to.)

Sure they do.  You need the right conditions and the will to mash the throttle to the bars.

Are you kidding? Drifting on an old sled is super easy, and on a newer one you just need the right conditions. I never ride, and even I can do it.

I am Sorry but drifting as a sport has got to be the dumbest "Sport" i have ever witnessed.  My god to think my average winter commute could be considered a pro sport .

That being said you want to see something real kewl come to my work in winter.  We "DRIFT" transport trucks around the yard for poops and giggles.  Can be done in summer too but it tears up the yard to much and then we get in trouble.  Its hard to get both axles going but once you get all 8 tires spinning hold on.  Usually start in 7th gear with the inter-axle lock engaged and then just hammer down while cranking around the back part of the yard.  One of these days i will get a vid of us messing around.

I loved drifting in my GTO, but my car and I went swimming in a canal last March, so now I'm looking for a new ride. The dealership down the road has a old Skyline GTR R33 with low mileage for only $5300

Top fuel is pansy compared to Jet. I've been next to one that was just idling. Even from 200 yards away, everything was shaking.

You've got to film that man. When I was stationed in KS, we used to mess with our deuce and a halves and 5 tons like that. Fun times.

The Skyline is a '95 model. It has AWD, the turbo 6, 5 speed, and right hand drive. It is white in color, has a ground effects kit, Sparco seats and harnesses, and the usual huge collection of ricky-racer gauges.

It is a pretty good deal, but I live in Japan now, and these cars are easy to find here. The same dealer also has a '95 RX-7 for the same price, and the smaller displacement of the rotary engine makes the road tax a little cheaper.

Same, that would be awesome. But I don't think I could ever drive (standard) on right hand drive. That would completely mess me up lol.

I taught myself to drive a stick while stationed in the UK, so I learned with the gearshift on my left.  The switchover when I came back to the states wasn't that bad.  I only grabbed the window crank a few times when I wanted to shift.  (Much less than the number of times I freaked out my passengers by pulling out into traffic going the wrong way.)

If you mean on the forum in general then it's possible, I haven't been on here in quite a while. If you mean this thread then it's all possible, I think I read the first page and then skipped to the last one.
