The "demo" for Spore is out. You get 25% of the creature creator for free, but for $10 you get to use all the parts. http://www.spore.com/trial - Download it and post your creations here. Tippmannis customians Inside the mouth is a spitter. The parts on the sides are for hearing, and the eye is where a sight would be. I would have thrown on a hopper but the game doesn't like asymmetry. Spore is supposed to come out just a couple days before I fly out. If I don't get a chance to pick this game up before I deploy I'm gonna cry. I've been waiting for this one for so long now.

The game lets you take your creature from microbe to space-fairing civilization, introducing a different type of gameplay every with each progression. Basically, it's an advanced version of flOw, RPG, RTS, Sim City, all in one package, with space exploration at the end. What sets it apart from all the mentioned game genres is that you create pretty much everything, from your animal to your vehicles and buildings, up to other planets. All the animations are figured out on the spot, so you are limitless in what you can make. I'm pretty sure you can have RTS battles online too, which is great because there would be a new enemy every time you fight. The creature creator is just a demo of the animal making ability and the procedural generation of animation. Every animal that people upload will appear in somebody's game, so it relies on a vast network of user input. Like all Maxis games, there's no end. However, the varied play styles of Spore and the ability to discover new planets and animals and whatnot make this game worth playing over and over again. -------------

so has anyone actually bought it? I'm thinking about it, but I don't want to waste 10 bucks on something i'll play for a few hours and then get bored of. |

There is a lot of potential within the small parts selection. I honestly don't think it's worth the $10, unless you're extremely obsessed with making animals and can't wait until the full version comes out. Besides, you can't exploit the features of the parts in the editor, so adding more parts is only aesthetic, and I've been able to get around that problem pretty easily. -------------

The full version of the CREATURE EDITOR is out for $10 The full game is available in about 80 days and will cost $50. -------------
