I've been reading a lot of threads about barrel selection for the A5 but haven't seen any comments concerning the OpsGear barrels which seems to get high reviews.  Anyone use OpsGear barrels and can compare to flatline, apex or JJ ??

I've never heard of an OpsGear barrel that got high reviews.  Who is giving these barrel reviews?

If you go to the site www.opsgear.com and look at the barrels for A5, you will see 3 of them:  G36 12 in., M4 14 in., and M4 16 in.

All these barrels got GREAT reviews and each barrel had at least 11 reviews, unless you are implying that all the reviews are company frauds?

So looking for any experiences with the OpsGear barrels compared to flatline and/or JJ, anyone ??

Thanks

I would always be leary of ratings like the ones you describe. Take them with a grain of salt.

As for comparisons between the ones you asked for, use the "search" feature and you will find numberous threads discussing the pros and cons of each. All except the OPsGear ones. I don't think I have ever heard anyone mention them.

Yeah, be very leary of reviews that are posted on the manufacturers own site.  Some of those reviews were probably posted by their marketing department, and the rest are just fanboys supporting their manufacturer. All reviews are screened by the company, and ones that bash the product or give it a bad rating are deleted.

Best review I ever saw was a 4.5 star rating for a product that the review even started off by saying they have never held, used, or even used anything LIKE it. Moral of the story, get a barrel that you've heard good things about on several sights, none of which have thier own store.

I have seen the OpsGear barrel mentioned on 1 thread in 1 post here, but that's it, and the guy said it was great.  That's why I asked.  So I'll have to assume that they are not used much in the Tippmann world, at least by those on this forum.

I just saw one of the OpsGear barrels on pbreview.com.  It has 12 reviews and they were all 10/10 except for 1, which was 7.  Its interesting that I can't find anything negative about this barrel.  Maybe they do make kick-@$$ barrels  ??

well, if you get one, give us a review, and the best of luck if you do get one.

So, the reviews are on the site where you buy them?  How convenient.

12 reviews?  Just 12 reviews??  You could honestly base a purchase of a product on the opinion of 12 people that may or may not be OpsGear employees?  Start looking at barrels that have at bare minumum ten times that number before even considering looking at one, much less buying one.

I own both the 14" and 16" M4 barrel from Opsgear. Two other teammates have the 18" fluted, and another has the G36.

They have never had any problems with theirs, and the 18" shoots REALLY well (yes it does use more air too...flame on about the long barrel thing if you wish, but I have seen it...this thing drives tacks...)

I personally bought the M4 barrels because at the time they were the only ones I could find with decent "bird cage" muzzle brakes. That being said, I lucked out...they worked incredibly well for me. They are a larger bore, HEAVY barrel, but very well made. With the proper paint to bore match, they should do everything you want and take a beating all at the same time.

One last caveat...NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER EVER EVER ....EVER listen to the positive reviews on those sights as your sole source...nothing but fanboys and newbs...I have seen some people who give an item 5 stars, then go on to say, "I can't wait 'til mine gets here in the mail, it looks soooo coool...I am going to own...blah blah blah"...(see where I am going with this? LOL)
