I can't imagine how they're going to effectively analyze such a huge amount of data.

People who are running these businesses and are suing are old guys from a different era of business and should just retire already. NBC and other station are using youtube as an advantage instead of trying to fight it.

I'm not worried either, but this seems to be really unnecessary on Viacom's part.

No. They're trying to get a list of everyone who's ever watched a video on youtube and what video they watched.

Just a weak attempt at intimidating YouTube/YouTube users.  Nothing will come of it.

They should fax the log to Viacom.

This will be terribly ineffectual, however, it sets a really bad precedent.

Lame. I'm sure Viacom and whoever is on their side isn't losing much money to YouTube, they just want another way to find out what people are watching so they can make more money. I guess they figure court costs would be the cheapest way to go about it rather than...hmm...a friggin survey. Besides, it'll take them a millennium to go through everything on YouTube.

I highly doubt Viacom is even trying to intimidate users.  If anything this strikes me as Viacom walking away with a virtual gold mine of user's viewing habits . . .

That would appear to be true.

It's a powerful amount of data, just because there is so much of it.

just another step away from net neutrality and toward corporations controlling the flow of information throughout the world.
