I'm going to order all the parts to build my computer for college very soon. I need it first and foremost to run engineering programs (Inventor mostly right now). It needs to render very fast. I will also use it for a fair bit of gaming. FPS, RPG, and of course Flight sim X. FSX should run on at least medium high settings. On my computer right now I also have over 150 gigs just for flight sim and it takes forever to load. Heres what I'm thinking: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400: 3.0GHz Dual Core, 1333 FSB, 6MB Cache, Socket 775, 64-bit 3GB DDR2 PC2-6400 (800MHz) Memory, via 3x1GB modules WD 500GB 7200rpm SATAII Hard Drive, 16MB Buffer Lite On 20X SATA Dual Layer, DVD+-RW Drive w/software & Lightscribe nVidia GeForce 9600GT 512MB DDR, PCI-E Video Card, TV-Out, Dual Display Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 OEM $1,209 |

i dont know the exact specs but i think curcit city has a comp with 6 gigs ram, 750gig hd and a quad core processor for like 1100...

| The problem there is they don't tell you the type of video card or many of the other specifics I need to know. Plus they all come with vista so I have to spend $100 on XP when I buy it. |

processor is mediocre, and the card is awful, the rest is meh.. if you build your own you can get 3 times better for less |

you could call the maker of your currant comp and get the install disks for xp...
from ad... amd phenom x4 9850 quad core processor - 6gb memory 750gb HD- nvidia geforce 9800 GT windos vista..... you can always power down the display model and open it up... the info is normally printed on the card right? better yet just ask for a sales person to do it for you... ------------- saving the world, one warship at a time. |

That will max out flight sim x (considering I can almost max it out on my 5 year old budget level computer)
Get a beter video card though. I recommend an 8800 (gtx if you can afford it) ------------- <just say no to unnecessarily sexualized sigs> |

flightsimx is weird. this chart says the 8800ultra is the best card for it. an old card they dont make anymore. and a single gpu beats a gx2 based on the same core.  -------------  |

Good specs.
Did you price it on TigerDirect.com? Cause they have the very best prices I can find. But your pricing is almost right on the money. And yeah, take it from me, the 8800GT is a better bang for your buck than the current Gen of Card. ------------- A second class drive is always better than a first class walk. |

CPU: If your working with rendering, a quad core is the best option. I'd recommend a Q660. Mobo: I really recommend against Nvida's chipset for Intel. Its generally a lot more expensive and Intel's chipsets are better by far. Take a look at Asus or Gigabyte's P35 or even X38 offerings. GPU: For the budget your looking at, ATI's R770 is by far a better GPU. The 4850 trumps or matches Nvida's latest 260 GTX in most programs and benchmarks for about $100 less. Power supply: The one your listing not only will struggle with your rig but its absolute crap. Don't be cheap here. Check out PC Power and Cooling's line, OCZ's line, Corsair's line or Silverstone's line. You want something that will supply at least 600W continuous, preferably around 700W. Most PSU manufacturers list the peak wattage as the PSU's wattage, meaning that their PSUs usually supply around 100W less actually to the system. PC Power and Cooling is one of the few which lists the continuous wattage in the product title. Don't be cheap on this, a crap PSU can burn out thousands of dollars of good hardware easily. Hard Drive: I'd probably recommend http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218 - WD's 640 GB drive, its offering the best sustained reads and writes for a 7200 RPM drive. Your slow loads in your flight sim are most likely due to bottlenecking by your hard drive. This drive should help that. If thats not enough, you might want to consider a RAID solution. Couldn't agree more. Just wanted to mention though, I think OCZ bought PC Power & Cooling a while ago so PCP&C makes their power supplies too.
