Don't you have to keep working out constantly or your muscles will go away fast?

You realize creatine doesn't increase your muscle mass? It essentially increase the muscle size, but it doesn't make you stronger, except for the first three minutes or so of cardiovascular exercise. It can increase power output some small percentage for the first three minutes.

tl,dr: It isn't that useful, it just makes you look bigger. Either work for your big guns so you can be proud of them, or give up, because you're never gonna make it.

If you feel like pissing away your muscles once you get off your cycle then go right ahead.

Creatine is not the way to go.  I started bodybuilding a year ago and have used only whey protein and on occasion Nitric Oxide powder.  I have gone from 157 to 175lbs.   That's just muscle mass, too.

Neither strength nor muscle tissue go away when you cycle off creatine, you simply lose water-weight and cut.

Creatine is natural.

Creatines purpose is not to "make you stronger." It is not a steroid, and is not designed to simply make you muscle bound.  Creatine increases the amount of water your muscles can hold, which translates in being able to work out longer at a higher intensity which (duh) ends up with you becoming stronger.  I'd love to know who told you this three minute crap, seeing as it has no correlation to creatine. I suggest stabbing them in the heart with an ice-pick.

Haha, I love people who act like creatines a steroid.

Regardless, for those of you who say do it natural, feel free to post pics of yourself.  Or better yet, anyone who did it without at least using a protein supplement, which is naturally found in meat like creatine.

And lol at the guy bashing creatine but trying to rep NO.

Honestly, Creatine will give you the results you want, and faster.  But the problem with it being unnatural is your joints not being able to handle the unnatural, speedy increase of your muscle's abilities.  That leads to torn ACL's and whatnot.

I'd stick to just eating right, taking whey, and a multivitamin; it's a system that rarely fails.  Along with working out daily of course.

Also, getting on a Creatine system, or most supplement systems give you diarrhea for like a week...not worth it for me, I stick to my little system above.

And your kidneys will love you for not using creatine, which just fills up your muscles with lots of water.

I hadnt noticed this at all with any supplement. I've been told by a few people it happens but have never had this experience nor have any close friends that ive talked to.

I like it, I also worked out for several years without it but seriously messed my self up riding and have been using it to help get back to where I was.

-edit- On a sorta related note though, after I was done using it I got mistaken as a bouncer at a club, so me and my buddies decided to use this to our advantage and charged peeps as they came in. Free drinks that night lol.

I don't care one way or the other about creatine, but this is probably the second most meatheaded response you could have given.

The first would have been challenging him to a bench-press off.

That is what I've been doing daily.

I've been making whey protein shakes before and after every workout, every day, for the past three or four weeks at least.

I thought it would go without saying, but it was more of trying to prove a point than actually getting someone to post a picture. Because honestly, would you believe and take advice from an obese personal trainer? No offense to you, but it kind of hard to listen to someone if they don't practice what they preach?

But I do see where you and everyones coming from, you can workout and become in shape and active, but most people who ask about creatine are concerned with building muscle, something most people on this forum really don't know alot about.

And to whoever said creatine mono gave them diahrrea. That only happens with dilluted creatine mono. If the mono you get is unaltered then you won't get that. Regardless, most people are using creatine ethyl ester now anyway, not creatine monohydrate. Theres not as heavy water retention with CEE.

Go study some anatomy/biology, then get back to me.

Do you have any clue how the Kreb's cycle works?

And for your information, my knowledge comes from my coaching by US National Rowing team athletes and coaches. I just so happen to row out of their boathouse, and I've been coached by members of the team for the past 3 years.

Creatine does not significantly increase any athlete's ability to create or build muscle--reference the 3 minutes. After those three minutes, all that creatine your body has stored up has no effect whatsoever, because you've already used it. If it did, it would almost certainly be a banned substance in actual sports, like cycling and running.

As I said before, all creatine does is make you look bigger, because it allows you to store slightly more water in your muscles. If you knew anything about the Kreb's cycle, you'd know that usaf, but apparently you never paid attention in biology.

So, why don't you stop talking out of your ass, usaf, and start actually showing some facts.

Anyone who says something like that is only lifting as a form of body-abuse.

Lifting itself is not exercise.

Get that through your head.

Unless you somehow turn it into cardio, lifting by itself is never enough to keep you in healthy shape.

Plus I think there is a big difference between staying in healthy shape and "building muscle." I can't help but think that so much of it is simply aesthetics.

My dad power-lifted for two decades, and as he has explained to me, there is a reason that the guys you see in the World's Strongest Man competitions don't look super ripped and toned.

And seriously, for those of you who think of supplements as "hardcore" and such, feel free to post a picture of yourself. I will genuinely be interested in any gains you have made without any supplements. I have pics from my bodyfat at 8% and 180lbs to 13% at 205lbs.

Also, feel free to post any studies on whatever supplement you choose if you would like. I've got stuides saved from the boston journal or medicine that state that steroids done in MODERATE dosages in males 21 to 35 saved on my comp. It would really be cool to see some that prove supplements dangerous.

Let's get this straight.

I lift 3 times a week for an hour in-season.

Lifting by itself is abusing your body. Lifting as part of an overall health/strength plan is fine.

But trying to get to the point where you can benchpress 250 pounds just for the hell of it will leave you with serious damage to your joints.

That's what I mean by body abuse.

I hadnt had any problems gaining muscle the natural way with no supplements what so ever, including protien. I went from benching 80-100 pounds 5 sets of 8 to 220 7 sets of 8. Then I had a pretty harsh break up with a broad I was seeing and fell into a pretty hard pit of drinking way too much. I had a night of sobriety you could call it when a punch through a random persons car window and realized I needed to straighten out. I heard that you shouldnt drink on creatine and always found working out a way of releaving stress, so I started taking creatine and stopped drinking for a few solid weeks. I liked the reults it gave and it made me look at what I was eating alot better and have decided to keep using it and progressing in weight training. Thats pretty much it, it actually helped me out of a pretty hard downward spiral and I loved the results.

I agree, but most people cannot, and should not, be doing workout reps of 250 pounds. That much weight does permanent damage to your skeletal system, and your joints.

I'm not against people lifting 250 pounds, but I am saying that lifting in and of itself is not a healthy method to get in shape. Nor should it be the only part of any healthy training regimen. There's no reason to go to the gym to lift all the time just to max weight; it's not good for you, and unless you're competing in weight lifting competitions, there's no real reason to.

I am all for weight lifting, but people take it way too far these days.

I know a lot of people talk about creatine loading, but I think some studies proved that it's unnecessary. Read http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/willbrink19.htm - this link.

My normal weight training workout is:

50 seconds on, 10 seconds off; rotate stations. Max reps in that time. Repeat the rotation 3 times, no breaks.

In no particular order...

-Box jumps (jump up onto a box...)
-Military press
-Bench press
-Ball pushups (pushups on a big inflatable yoga ball)
-Bench pull
-Pushups
-Situps
-Pull ups
-Wall-ball (throw a medicine ball either against a wall and catch it, or, normally, up in the air. The up in the air version helps your legs a lot more: start seated on a medicine ball, with your arms holding the ball in a V-shape against your chest. As you throw the ball into the air, you lift both your arms and legs. Keep moving the whole time, don't stop to catch the ball or drop onto the ball on the ground. Good exercise.)
-There's another one or two things we sometimes throw in, this is all I can think of right now. Normally we have 11 stations; but if you're doing them alone, just try to work each msucle you can think of at least once.

Generally when I do just straight lifting I do:

3 sets, trying to keep less than 20 seconds between ending one exercise and starting the next.

-Leg press
-Bench press
-Bench pull
-Tricep extensions
-Seated row
-Quad extensions
-Hamstring curls
-Hamstring extensions

First off, powerlifting is not body abuse, if you take care of your body, you will be fine. Why do you think they are some 50 year old bodybuilders who don't have any joint problems and some 50 year old computer egineer who can barely walk. Its all on how well you take care of yourself.

And they're is absolutely no way your at 4% bf, you would be absolutely stacked at 190 lbs. Bodybuilders who compete and are on stage normally compete arond 4 to 5%.

Predatorr. Creatine is actually meant to cycle, just like any supplement, your body will build up a tolerance.

Also, I have never heard nor seen anything that suggest drinking with creatine makes you more likely to be angry or drunker or whatever. Creatine isn't valium.

As I said, pulling it out of my ass.

I thought average was male athlete fat percentage was 2%-5%. Obviously way off. Anyway, low. But probably somewhere between 6% and 14%, based on http://www.sport-fitness-advisor.com/bodyfatpercentage.html - this website.

I just completed by longest break from working out in the past 2 years, which was 4 weeks as of today, so I'm probably pushing 10% now.

And most people will do serious damage to their bodies powerlifting. It's just a fact: bodies are not meant to hold that much weight, especially not often. I'll give it to you, I'm sure there's guys out there who have been doing it for years and are fine. But I'd there are more people who have scars from it, whether through their own lack of knowledge and bad training techniques, or because their bodies simply aren't meant to handle it.

And obviously not working out at all can be just as bad for you. But my point is that there is somewhere in between the point of working out to the extent of injuring your body, and not working out to the point of injuring your body.
