How much do you tip for food deliveries (pizza). I usually add $2 and round up to the nearest dollar and give them that. Is that ballpark?

This is for stuff under $20. When it's over $20 it's usually $3-$4.

When I deliver (these are for big deliveries though), I usually get around 3%-7% tip I'm guessing, plus around $20 per delivery no matter what, whichh is pretty good. So to load everything, drive to the place, then set up 3-4 chauffeurs from the car, load them with food from the hot box, put out salad, dressing, ect is usually good for around 30-40 bucks. The prep work and timing is the hardest part, but it's quick money. Don't get me wrong, it's still stressful making sure you have everything and doing it under the gun, but once you do it a few times you sort of get your own system down.t. A few weekends ago I delivered for grad parties all day and made like $250, so it's definitely worth it.

If I do order delivery food I tip 7 bucks. Usually a restaraunt that has delivery food is crap quality. Like the place I work at

No wonder Canadian pizza sucks.
No, but seriously, when someone is in the service industry, they're counting on tips.
I haven't gotten pizza delivered in probably 3-4 years, because there are pizza places so close to my house, but I generally tipped about $5 for 2 pizzas. When I'm in a restaurant, it's totally based on how hard they're working. I've had waiters I've left 5% on a big bill for (one incident, probably a $100+ bill at a cheap diner, comes to mind), because they just sucked. But I've left 25% on some bills for waiters who've made my meal more enjoyable just be being there.

Heh, for some reason your post reminded me of my dad. He has a natural tendancy to tip college-age girls and women in general more, convinced that their service is always great. Guys are almost always tipped less, no matter how great the service was. The only reason its funny is because he refuses to recognize the fact that he does this.

I think tipping depends on what kind of person you are, and whats important to you. I work at subway and we get tips. Some people appreciate a nice, non-sloppy sub, while some people just want to get in and out as fast as possible. Some nights we can split up to at least $5 each between 2 or 3 of us working. While thats doesn't seem like very much, its a nice little bonus on top of making our normal wages.

Well most people just leave their change as in quarters, dimes, ect..we get some bills though. But remember we are splitting it between 3 of us, and its only for 4-6 hours of work. I always leave the closer with an extra buck or 2. So really, in an 8 hour shift, the store might take in $20+ worth of tips, which I think is pretty good compared to most other businesses that have a tip cup.

I think we both took it as you were splitting a total of $5 amongst yourselves, not you all recieving $5.

When I delivered food, we had a few regulars... some tipped well, others didn't. I wouldn't ever mess with a customer's food, but I did present a different level of service to each. You tip me the change from your bill, well... don't expect me to deliver your meatball sub while it's still hot, you're going to be on the end of my run. Someone tips me $5, I'll remember that and haul ass over to their place so that I can get that again.
It's how it works... go to a function with an open bar and don't tip... you'll get crap pours and even worse service. Go up, and tip the bartender $20 right off the bat, and you'll have your drinks poured for you before you even get up to the bar...
|
Posted By: Benjichang

At bars, my protocol is tipping big right off the bat and at the end of the night usually when I don't have a tab open and I'm just paying for individual drinks. Seems to work pretty well. Every time I get a Tanqueray and tonic at one particular local dive, it's always pretty much all gin. Basically my point is as PCF said, if you tip well, you will get better service.
On individual drinks I usually tip 50%, depending on the cost.

Huh.
I definitely favor generous tipping - as a customer, it isn't hard to see the service difference. But somehow it never occurred to me to drop a bill at the beginning of the night in a bar. I can certainly see how that would make additional drinks easier.
That goes in the memo file. Thanks.

At least $5 for deliveries, a little more for wait staff at a restaurant, especially if they're really good servers.
As for bars, at least a dollar a drink, and I'm tipping them as I'm getting the drinks. A dollar a drink seems to work, they appreciate it, and as about half the drinks I'm buying are beer, they're making pretty good money for either pouring from a tap into a cup, or just taking a top off the bottle for me. It's the mixed drinks my girlfriend gets that I feel they're actually working for, but they see someone tip well, they'll remember it.

it really does depend on the bar... if it's a packed college bar, well then there's not much point in trying to tip your way into great service, especially if you're a guy and there's a bunch of guy bartenders.
I usually only tip big right away at events with open bar (wedding receptions, work parties etc). Places where bartenders will actually remember you, and where you won't get lost in the crowd.
I remember I was at this bar once... really crappy college dive bar that I've never gone back to... and I waited about 15 minutes to get served. It wasn't busy at all. I was standing there, with my credit card in hand, and i had bartenders make eye contact with me. Yet, they always turned and helped the other people that were there for their special "you bring it we fill it" deal. $3 to fill any container with Miller Lite.
I think the guy that finally came over to help me got like... a 15 cent tip. I purposely added on that much to my credit card bill just to prove my point, and not to round it up to the next dollar or anything.

Getting paid $6.15 to drive something to your house because you are too lazy to pick it up...it's usually very nice to give the guy giving you your food a decent tip.
I deliver all the time at night and on weekends, it's people like you that I take my sweet-ass time on because you're too cheap to give $2.00 extra to the person who used their gas to get you your food. Hey, your pizza will be nice and cold too because you suck that much. Thankfully I deliver in a very rich wealthy area, so I average about $80 a night, despite the few assholes who don't tip me anything and live in a mansion on a lake, with a gated fence.

Man, some of you guys must be making some serious cash to be throwing fives and tens to people who barely work.
And if you honestly think that driving around and delivering food is hard work, I pity you when you get to a real job.
Seriously, though, I wish someone tipped me every time I did something IN MY JOB DESCRIPTION.
Min wage up here is 5 bucks an hour. That is plenty to be doing a brainless job that is considered a courtesy service to the customer. The delivery kid doesn't own the restaurant, he works there.
And to the clever people who said they would spit in food if they got a low or no tip:
1. I pity your work ethic
2. I cripple people who are that arrogant when they have no reason to be.
And the end cost price, fuel and all that other junk has been rolled into the price if the business man has any brains.
Honestly, it's almost as if you feel bad for someone who'se too lazy to get a real job.

I meant real job in the sense that it takes some skill and brains to do.

pina colada's are good if you like coconut.
hurricanes and mai thais are good, but will mess you up, so be careful.
margaritas of course, but i had a bad night on tequila, so those aren't very high on my list.
any colored blended drink will be one to try, because you usually can't taste the booze in them. and hell, since you are young, don't feel bad to ask for "whatever that guy has." just make sure they tell you so you can remember.
Could start being manly and drink whiskey too... if you're up to it, try a 7 & 7. It's a lighter whiskey and is a pretty tasty drink. otherwise a whiskey old fashioned is good too for those new to whiskey.

Margaritas are always good, as are pina coladas or hurricanes as pcf mentioned.
Wouldn't hurt to try an amaretto sour, or some sort of fruit-martini.

I know about pina coladas since they are my favourite drink
I've had whiskey before and never liked it.
I also like mojitos but besides that, I have little experience.
I will try the drinks you guys suggested.

didn't read anybody's posts except for on this page, but my current favorite drink is something I had at beach week.
In a high class red plastic cup, two - three shots of malibu, two thirds pineapple juice, and one third cranberry. mmmmmm

no lie, PCF, I've done shots of Captain, but I really don't enjoy drinking unless it's tasty, or a game. MFT, right there.

I stick too beer. Liquor and mixed drinks are unpredictable.

I've never even glanced at this post until now, so I skipped to the last page, assuming it was about how much to tip your delivery guy. But how in the hell did it get to Carl's farewell to the forum for a day or so?
Someone explain this to me in two or less sentences so I don't have to read all that crap.
