I don't see how this could possibly live up to the hype. If they hadn't pushed it so hard I'd imagine that I could go into it enjoying it more.
All this talk of "incredible," "Oscar," and other crazy amounts of praise are setting it up for a fall.

True. But that's part of the comic book genre. It's supposed to be somewhat surreal (although the acting in some of them made them a bit too surreal).
I liked Batman Begins.

I loved them as a kid but they were terrible movies (especially the acting) | Because Chris Nolan is a better director that understands the character, comics, and mythology better than Tim Burton who just was cheesy as all hell. The 80s reinvention of the character made him an all around better and more enjoyable character than what he was in the previous comics. He's one you can truly identify with.

definitely want to see it again...
p.s has anyone stayed till after the credits, I would of hated to miss any thing, and have before, Ironman, Transformers, Cloverfield, but 2:45's pretty late...
I am looking forward to the next Batman film, if it's any thing like this one I will defitiley give up another 8 bucks to see it... I wonder who will be the villian... Oh wow...perhaps...The Penguin? I'm not sure if anyone could ever replace Devito... Heath proved me wrong tho...

I can imagine the hype would take away from the cinematic experience,
but the way The Joker was portrayed was simply epic. Anyone who is
disappointed with Heath Ledger's job is either stupid or an
overly-analytical-and-elitist douche. I promise you won't be
disappointed with that.

I absolutely loved that movie. When they had Harvey Dent in this one I thought they were setting him up for being 2 face in the next movie, but then they surprised me and had him in this one. That was actually a long movie, but it didn't seem that long while watching it. Ya I have to agree that the Joker was by far my favorite charachter in this movie and ya that magic trick completely caught me by surprise.

I was kind of disappointed. The movie was absolutely fantastic. I loved it, but I was really disappointed they got rid of scarecrow AND two face in the same movie.
Instead, they made the mistake of leaving joker alive, giving the opportunity for a joker sequel in the future. Two face and scare crow were both incredible villains in the cartoons and comic books. The fact that they got rid of both of them didn't settle well with me.
I think the only way they have to go now is to have Rachael or whatever her name was become catwoman. They can spin it like she blew up, but as she was dying there some cats go and do their thing to her, and she becomes catwoman. Then somehow she can release scarecrow.
I don't know...I was just bummed at how easily some of the greatest villains of all time were taken out.

It really was a great movie. Never a dull moment. It was amazing how the Joker was portrayed and I loved the modern "Pg-13" spin on the movie. Not to mention, Alfred has to be the most badass butler ever.
It kills me how a movie based off of a children's comic book and tv show could be so brutal... But I'm definitely not complaining.

Imagine how brutal it could have been if it were rated R? I loved the bank manager's reaction to being robbed. That was a great magic trick, I figured out what it was going to be about a split second before it happened, I guess that means I'm a twisted SOB. Ledger's Joker was great, now I'm pissed he died, he would have been a great addition to the series, especially now that they've painted themselves into a corner by killing everyone. Two-Face might have been a bit much for PG-13, and the 8-year old who sat next to me parroting all of the joker's lines and miming machine-gunning the audience for the whole movie made me fear for the future of our society.

I don't think two face died. Come on, they are smarter than that. I bet
next movie, they can't find his body. And that catwoman idea would be
cool. But, in the comic books/other movies, batman doesn't have a
personal connection with catwoman. Atleast I don't remember.

Ivy, Catwoman, Dr. freeze, Riddler, Two-Face (the return), Scarecrow... i was paintballing yesterday and some guy heard me and my friends talking about the movie and said that there were a lot of robins. the original joker died and robin became him. then the second and third robin died and the forth became Nightwing... something like that.. but if they cast another person as joker it will be epic fail because it will be such a hard role to fill after ledger

My friend (her boyfriend) has been wanting to see this movie since the first trailers came out in January or something. He loves comics and superhero movies, and has obviously been looking forward to seeing this for a long time. Also, I was looking forward to seeing it, and so was our other friend who was with us as well.
If I didn't feel too stoked to see a movie, but my friends did, I either would keep it to myself or just not go in the first place. We ended up going back to my friend's house to watch Se7en instead. My friend was obviously pissed at his girlfriend the whole time though. I can only imagine the conversation that took place after we left them there.

Now to think ahead, what are the next possible villains? Bane? Penguin? Someone less well known like Scarface? Whatever they do they are looking at some big shoes to fill and a track record to keep. I saw it last night as well and it was epic but the hype of the Joker character left me dissatisfied with him, I still say he's only put on such a high pedistal for that role becuase he died and that's it for him. Personally I feel he did better in the Patriot, when the british murdered his wife he went after them with such conviction that he sold it to me. While I agree that Heath Ledger redifined Joker and was probebly the best Joker yet, I disagree with comments of the role being his best. Aside from that amazing as hell, the new Bat suit is awesome and the way he fights in this one kills the style in the first. Batman Begins he like hit the bad guys once and disappered, in The Dark Knight instead of disappering he chained hits off of thugs hitting one in the face the next in the chest and so on and so forth.

The next movie probably will be society against batman w/ batman fighting a villain and at the same time fighting to regain acceptance with the general public.
The villain depends on what overall theme nolan chooses.

Well, my wife and I decided to try to go and see it again, and AGAIN we get a search and rescue call and have to go into the woods. I think I'll wait for it to hit DVD, I'm not destined to see this movie.

We don't go to too many movies at the big screen, we reserve it for ones like this where a big screen a great sound will serve justice to the way a movie like this is made and intended to be watched; I'd love to see the Imax version.

You really don't understand WHY I made the decision. Twice now we've tried to see it. Twice now we've been called away from our plans and had to go traipsing through the woods on search and rescue calls, which are a lot less fun than they sound- Hell I was IN the seat at the movie theater the first time and had to leave.
We are not destined to see this film I'm afraid. We might take another crack at it tonight, but I dunno.

| Good idea. Just shoot some crack and then you won't care about your job and you can actually get to see the movie.

SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE!!!
Seriously though, I saw it last friday and was genuinely amazed. Never seen a Batman film before this. But that didn't stop me from really, really liking it. 9/10. At least.

Okay, third attempt went unfoiled.
I was genuinely impressed. The writing, the acting, the story...all of it. It really did live up to the hype.
And I'm not saying this because the guy is dead, but the portrayal of the joker......eerily amazing.

Just got home from seeing it. Loved it, though I didn't like the decision about the way to portray Two Face. The "damage" looked too comical or something.

I agree about Two Face. I always imagined Two Face as being more scared on one side of his face and not actually missing part of his cheek and such.

Ya I didn't really like that. The really stupid part was no speech impediment even though he was missing half his face.

Yea bringing that up I didn't even tell they changed Rachel, I haven't seen Batman Begins in along time, but I thought she played the part fine..
I find myself still awed by Heath's performance by watching youtube vids... Why So Serious!? I so gotta see this again...

Amen to that. that's one thing I was pretty disappointed in. Maggie Gyllenhaal does nothing for me....there's just something about her face that makes it seem misshapen or something.
I'm not a Katie Holmes fan either, but she is at least 70 or 80 times hotter than M.G.

Maggie Gyllenhaal is a superior actress in every way. She's not attractive in a common way, but she is attractive. There's a certain charisma to her that's difficult to define.
And "Secretary" was an odd freakin' movie.

I thought Maggie Gyllenhaal was kinda hot in some weird way.
Movie was fantastic, exceeded my expectations.
