I don't drink much. I just recently found out how much I like Guinness, and was curious about other peoples opinions.

That being said, just how mind-bendingly cool I am goes without saying.

Irish Car Bombs:  Shot of Baileys and a shot of Jameson's.  Drop it in a guinness.  Drink it before it tastes nasty.

That's how we do them around here.

Hmm. That isn't on my list of things to try at the moment My personal favourite preparation for Guinness is equal parts of Guinness and Guinness. That is all

Eville, I'll keep an eye out for em.

Half glass of guinness, half shot of whiskey, half shot of bailey's.

Put either the half shots into one and do it up like a boiler maker. Just drop the shot in and kill it. It's amazing. The taste is soooo good.

Not even close to being the best as far as stouts go.

And man up with those carbombs. Whole Guinness, whole shot whiskey, whole shot Baileys.

its filled with nitrogen

the rocket things in the bottle arent filled with nitrogen or co2 or anything like that.  whenever you get a guiness from the tap it has that big foamy head.  the rocket in the bottle is just supposed to recreate that, but from the bottle.  all it does is make it foam up a bit.

Not a fan.

The purpose of the widget is to release the CO2 from some of the beer in the can to create the head. The widget is a plastic, nitrogen-filled sphere with a tiny hole in it. The sphere is added to the can before the can is sealed. It floats in the beer, with the hole just slightly below the surface of the beer.

The Guinness Widget. Note the cavity near the center of the ball, the tiny hole is located within the cavity.

Just before the can is sealed a small shot of liquid nitrogen is added to the beer. This liquid nitrogen evaporates during the rest of the canning process and pressurizes the can. As the pressure increases in the can, beer is slowly forced into the sphere through the hole, compressing the nitrogen inside the sphere.

When you open the can, the pressure inside immediately drops, the compressed gas inside the sphere quickly forces the beer out through the tiny hole into the can. As the beer rushes through the tiny hole, this agitation causes the CO2 that is dissolved in the beer to form tiny bubbles that rise to the surface of the beer. These bubbles help form the head.

My friends love car bombs, and everyone I've ever seen them order doesn't have the shot of jamesons in it.  It's just a full bottle and full shot of baileys.

Guess the Hawaiian drinking crowd is weak...

Have to be in the mood for something like Guinness. To pour it correctly, it can take 8-10 minutes, so I've heard. Never poured it that slow before, but pouring it slower than normal does make a difference in taste.

No, it doesn't take that long, but I've always poured it a third of a glass at a time.

I really enjoy Guinness. The bar I haunt locally doesn't serve it though, they serve Murphy's Stout, which is almost as good. You don't want to get drunk on a beer heavy like that. First of all it's too freakin expensive, second of all, its just a waste of premium beer. Thirdly, you'll die.

The first time I had an Irish car bomb, it was absolutely amazing. A friend of mine bought me one for my birthday one year while we were out. I'll take them over a Jeager bomb any day of the week.

And yes, full beer, full shots. It sort of tastes like an alcoholic milk shake.

As with any beer you put into a glass, tilt the glass so the beer runs/slides to the bottom rather than dropping to the bottom of the glass. It keeps the beer from foaming up too much and generally makes for a neater pour.

Pour slowly enough to take 8-10 minutes and it'll likely all be running back along the bottom side of the can and onto the floor. Nobody wants that.

With Guinness it just takes a minute or so to "set." Watch it after you pour it. It goes from light brown to a very dark color. I once got a pitcher of it at a bar and it was cool as hell to watch the whole thing set.

All that said, if you like Guinness, don't limit yourself to only that dark beer. There are plenty of others out there that are very good or better.

Ehhhh Guinness is alright, but there are much much much better beers out there. For example, in the world of stouts, you have several different types which give much more flavor and body than Guinness does. As a stout, Guinness actually fails to deliver on the body that a stout should have. The reason it became so popular back in the day (and has continued to remain popular) is that it wasn't like any other beer available throughout most of the world. The vast majority of beers available to the public around the world prior to the introduction of Guinness were either heavier ales, or very very very light lagers. Guinness was the first stout to be widely distributed (thanks to the British Navy) around the world quickly rocketing it to its world-class status. It used to be considered and "elite" beer in the US due to the fact that it differed so greatly from the average American produced beer (read: horse piss) and those that consumed Guinness usually only began to do so to be "different". In recent times, the American public as well as many other beer drinking societies around the world (including but not limited to Japan, China, India, and Jamaica) have started producing their own styles of stouts. "Old Rasputin Imperial Stout" from North Coast Brewing Co. out of California comes to mind as does "Dragon Stout" out of Jamaica and the various "Sapporo Dark" brews from Japan.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Guinness as much as the next stout drinker, but if I had an option to try it vs another fuller bodied stout, I'd go for the full body any day of the week.

I liked it more when tallen was dead.  When he's not here, it's like a dimly lit club, everyone looks better/smarter than they actually are.  Tallen shows back up, and it's like a giant sobering, bright light of the morning after.

Tallen forces the collective walk of shame on this forum.

Damn you tallen.

Brooklyn and Goose Island make some good stouts, as does Great Lakes Brewery.

My favorite is probably Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout, which is made in England.

No. Oatmeal stouts are brewed using oats, but don't really taste like them.

Sam Smith's oatmeal stout actually tastes like a big rich glass of chocolate milk when properly chilled. The oats add a creamy richness to the mix that gives it great body and vanilla notes.
