I'm looking into getting either the US army gun and then buying the bt m16 apex barrel or the custom 98 and then getting a stock and the bt m16 apex barrel and a magazine. I guess what I'm asking is, is the performance of the custom 98 that much better that I should spend the extra money.

from what i understand the custom 98 can be upgraded more easily than the alpha black, i think they have the same internal except some minor difference,
depend on what upgrade your planning to do and if you plan to put the time in it

Minor internal differences (such as the triggers being non-interchangeable). Tippmann seems to be coming out with all the same upgrades for the AB as they have for the other markers. (Only exception might be the Flatline barrel as the shape of the F/L does not necessarily work with the front handguard of the AB.)

well if there are only minor internal differences then i think i will go the the AB cause if i got the 98 i would be adding the m16 apex barrel (which I need to buy anyway) and a stock and magazine

The AB would be much cheaper. I like my dads AB way more than his
milsim 98.

anyway the flatline ruin the look would go with a J&J ceramic barrel, then if you really want to shoot far add an apex

I was gonna buy this to keep the m16 look of the AB. Correct me if I'm wrong but that should work cause it has 98 threads.

the alpha black and the 98c are both equal performance wise since their internals are exactly the same besides the trigger assembly(that doesn't make a difference in performance). if you want to make it look like an M4, get the alpha black. you will save money because it already comes with the mag and minor M4 details on the receivers. an M4 98c will not look nearly as good as a M4 alpha black. the alpha black can accept 98c barrels, stocks, internals, ect.
the flatline barrel posted above is not for the AB, its for the 98 custom platinum edition. it just doesn't include the shroud for on top of the gun's rails. it will work for the AB though. if you want to make an M4, the flatline will not be a good idea since its a bent barrel and looks fake, even with the shroud. if you want the advantages of a flatline, plus more, get an APEX. it better then a flatline. it shoots about 100ft further, less paint picky, more accurate, can shoot around corners, can do nose dives, plus way more. it can also be turned on(8 different distance levels) and off and can also be installed on a better barrel with an adapter or by using the tape mod for increased accuracy. the APEX puts the flatline into the stonage. also, the apex looks like a silencer so that should help with your mil-sim M4 gun.
Hope this helps.

^^^ Truth. You can also get a Cyclone for it.

^^Very subjective and a lot of members on here with much more experience will disagree as to whether the FL or Apex is better.
it shoots about 100ft further, than a stock barrel, not a flatline less paint picky, some truth, but I personally have not had issues with my FL. I also don't use Walmart brand paint more accurate, totally untrue can shoot around corners, can do nose dives, plus way more. Results may vary, don't expect to be doing Annie Oakley trick shots with pinpoint accuracy it can also be turned on(8 different distance levels) and off and can also be installed on a better barrel with an adapter or by using the tape mod for increased accuracy. Neither the Apex or Flatline is accurate at increased distances. The will travel farther in a "flat" tradjectory, but accuracy beyond standard barrels drops dramatically for both barrels. It's basic physics of paintballs. Round liquid filled balls simply do not make great projectiles the APEX puts the flatline into the stone age. Not quite. There are strong points for both also, the apex looks like a silencer so that should help with your mil-sim M4 gun. Somewhat, but again, subjective.
Hope this helps.

I do agree that the Apex is better looking on an AB than a Flatline.
