Hey everyone, I'm interested in purchasing a 98 custom. I'm a bit confused by the website. Does the 98C Platinum edition also feature the ACT? I'm not interested in the Pro editions yet, as I am just getting into the sport. Also, what does the new rail system on the platinum editions allow me to do? Is it worth purchasing the Platinum edition over the regular just for this feature?

Thanks!

The rail system allows you o mount a scope/sight on your gun. No they dont feature ACT but im pretty sure you can buy the ACT parts for the 98c and im pretty sure you would be able to put the act into the gun.

From waht I hear, the ACT works but has problems with higher bps rates. I've heard of guys actually removing the linkage arm so there's no ACT. Heh, might as well have just bought your typical 98C and mod it out. You can eliminate chops/breaks.

1) make sure your paint is the correct diameter.
2) have a feed system that can sustain the RoF.
3) maintain your marker properly. KNOW your marker.

I've chopped maybe 3 balls in the 6 1/2 years I've been playing with the only marker I've ever had. Above is how I did it. After market bolts really don't make a difference, the stock is just fine. I'd say a regular 98C will do you well. It's never failed me.

If you don't know this for a fact, you probably shouldn't comment on it.  I know you can't add ACT to older 98 Customs because the body shells are not properly configured for the parts.  If I was Tippmann, I would use the same body shells for all the 98 series markers and just add the ACT parts to the ACT markers because that would simplify manufacture by having only a single type of body mold.  However, Tippmann has already shown that this isn't a consideration for them by simultaneously selling non-ACT markers which have a different type of body.  This is a question that needs to be answered by someone that actually knows the answer.

I was mistaken. On the website, under the 98 Custom Platinum edition is states that it has all of the features of the 98 Custom including ACT.

I wasn't aware that the ACT could cause problems. Do any of the 98's featured on the website not include this?

Can the rail on the plain 98 custom found on the website still accept scopes, handles, etc?
