i just want to say i'm not sure if this is the right place for the posting but i
just ant to talk about byop. of course i always prefer fields that are byop
because it allows you to shop around and save some money on paint. i
heard that Giant paintball Lakeside/barona is going to byop until the end of
sept. i don't live that far from San diego CA so i'm probably going to head
down. figuring what my group can save on a day of paint is going to be
more then the gas to drive down.

In my area, BYOP was more expensive than to just buy the fields paint because of the BYOP fee.

Man, I feel like I'm getting raped for a case. There is another field exactly 3 miles from High Velocity. there pro shop is around the corner, they charge $35 a case and if you bring the reciept for the paint, they take 10% off price of admission, but th efields are little more than just woods and not much else.

You cant blame the fields for charging that much, its an incredibly easy way to make extra money. Their fields also dont turn into an orgy of bright colors. But there is a limit, Im not paying $70 for a case of mid-grade paint.

With paint like that, I can't imagine why..
I've never understood why people would actually PAY those prices.

A lot of fields here are in the 120 a case range. The field I play at is the
cheapest I can find, 80 a case. Still obscene.
Theres only one non-airball field anywhere near me that allows BYOP.

First off, every post I can find by the Original Poster has been about one of the SC Village/Giant Paintball parks. Can you say plug? LOL
As for BYOP, most fields around here are BYOP. I attended the opening day event at Giant Paintball in Barona (San Diego) and their cheap paint was $39 a case. It was WAY small but was very good paint otherwise (the size played havoc with my big bore barrel when it came to FPS). I had no breaks in the barrel but they were fine on target. SC Village is also making you buy paint at their upcoming scenario event but at least they are charging reasonable prices for brand name paint. $46 for Evil, $56 for Draxxus Silver I believe. $36 for Zap. I can deal with that.
Those of you paying $70+ for rec paint I feel for you. That sucks. I'm happy most of the fields around here are BYOP fields.

I don't even see how they can justify prices like that. I wonder how much it really costs them to make, package, and ship a box of paint.

In 1990 I was paying @.10 per shot. I considered it a bargain because I would have gladly payed .50/ball to watch my friends drop when shot in the junk.

I used to live by the Brass Eagle factory in Neosho, MO. The field fee was $10, and that included rentals (if needed), all day air, and all the paint you can shoot. It was definitely the Mecca of paintball when it came to people on a budget.

I never liked that field. The one child policy made bunkering a pain. How am I supposed to shoot just one when they are so small and piled up in a bunker monkey huddle behind the stack of pallets?

BYOP is good stuff. The field I used to play at was always BYOP on sundays but they had reasonable prices for decent paint anyway ($60-70 for something like PMI premium). There's only one other field in the area and they were charging like $80+ for crummy stuff and it was FPO so you were screwed into it. Needless to say, I played there once and only once despite the fact that their fields were much nicer. That was like 5 years ago though, I've only been able to play like once every year lately at skirmish for ION. Paint isn't cheap there but it's not terrible either, paint is fairly good quality too. That said, paint prices are the least of their problems at skirmish but that's a topic for another thread. Man, I miss being able to play a few times a month like I did in high school.

I went to a field once where they wanted $90 a case. At their shop, a few miles away, the same case was like $65. You were not allowed to buy the case at THEIR shop, and bring it to THEIR field.
It boggled my mind.
Most scenarios I'm playing around here, I'll pay about $60 for a case.

true...but the paint often doesnt agree to well with higher end guns. if, of course you're talking about cousins...in which case their fields border HIVI along the fence on the WW2 field. on the other hand, hivi fi elds are a lot better...they were as i remember anyway...haven't even had time to dust off my guns in the last year or so

Hey Reb, you still go to the games at West Point? I remember their prices being reasonable but the turnout was kind of low for their games. I'm curious to see how things have changed, last time I was there was a few years ago. I definitely need to find an alternative to skirmish for my scenario fix every year, the safety issues at ION have become absolutely absurd. I'm thinking about heading to EMR for a game or two as well, I remember hearing good stuff about them.
