I don't know if anyone remembers, but I made a thread in the spring expressing my discontent with being a pharmacy major. This summer I've been working as an intern programmer for a software company near my home. I figured I'd get a feel for Computer Science by experiencing it first hand before I made any permanent switch.

Well, today it's official. I just got back from my school (ONU). I'm now enrolled in the College of Engineering as a Computer Science major. The process was pretty much painless. Everyone seemed very laid back over in Engineering. People in Pharmacy always seemed pretty uptight and hard to approach. I'm excited, as this is something I really want to be doing for once. Hopefully things will go better for me this year.

Anyway, I just figured I'd post an update. I'm glad this is finally resolved. It's been bugging me for awhile now.

Good luck!  It's a well paying field for the most part.  I've been sitting in a Network+ class this week and I don't know if I could ever go through the whole CS program.

For the record, I am an IT Professional (so they tell me) doing HTML, JAVA, ColdFusion, PHP, and associated Database work but this is my first Computer class...the rest of that stuff I learned on my own.  This "formal" classwork stuff makes my head hurt. LOL

No longer than I'd be there for Pharmacy.

I'm taking CS101, a 4 hour GPA booster basically, to fill my GEC requirements. It's similar to the high school classes I did with Word, Access, Excell, etc. What a joke.

I am glad to hear that you are happy with what you are doing, I myself
am in an argument with my parents on whether or not I should quit
drumline to go and take an autobody repair class. This class would tell
me whether or not I really want to take on autobody repair as a full time
profession.

Another nice thing about it is, since I've already had 3 years of school, I'm done with all the Gen-Ed requirements for the most part. This means at least for next year, my actual Computer Science course schedule is going to be light. This leaves me time to take other electives for the hell of it, and for me to continue the Spanish minor that I started with.

A lot of people think Computer Science is extremely difficult but I think that just depends on your interest level. I love working with computers so it doesn't take that much effort for me to learn the stuff but I know others who aren't stupid people yet they just can't seem to handle it.

CS is a very interesting subject though it can absolutely be very frustrating at times. Usually, the toughest part is learning the basics of a programming language. A lot of people have trouble adjusting themselves to think in more mathematical terms so even simple tasks become extremely difficult. If you can get past that, it should be pretty easy to get through the rest. I'm guessing you already know some basic programming if you had an internship so you should already be off to a good start. If you need help with anything, shoot me a PM or make a thread here. I'm going into my 4th year as an IT major and there are others on here who are pretty knowledgeable with that stuff as well. Good luck.
