Shot up some bowling pins today, took some pics, been so busy with the car this year this was the first time this summer I'd shot. I didn't shoot either of the S&W's today though. Did put half a box through the Taurus though. I've kind of got a thing for revolvers.

Taurus .357 Magnum

Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum

Top to bottom, S&W .357 Mag, S&W .38 Special, Taurus .357 Mag,

Lets see your revolvers, and if you don't have any, post up some pics of ones you like.

I really dislike revolvers. I don't know what it is about them. I don't care for the feel. I like having more than six rounds. They take longer to load unless you have full moons, granted it probably takes even longer to load a magazine for a pistol, but whatever. And I'm just not too keen on the looks. The only one I own is a little snub nose .38 special, and it is burried somewhere in the depths of my house, probably never to be seen again.

I think this is actually the opposite of responsible gun ownership.

Robo, I'll see what I can do. We weren't shooting hollow points so they didn't explode like the usually do. I did put a few rounds into them with the AK though

Also detrev, as long as you get a heavy gun, barrel length isn't a big issue. Weight really helps reduce recoil,

I was shooting one of these today as well, it probably kicked more than the rest being a lightweight sub compact 9MM, sucker has some pop,

Holy giant image batman, fixed that one.

I'm not a big fan of revolvers, but I do have this one. It belonged to my grandfather. I inherited it when he died. It's a Smith & Wesson Model 66, .357 Mag.

Ruger super six.   It's nothing special but it's fun to carry with on the tractor and attempt to shoot at small game.

Not my photos, but the same models as what I have.

The first is a Colt Police Positive .38 with a 4" barrel.

The second is a Colt Trooper .357 with a 6" barrel.

Revolvers rox.

They are a solid 11 on the fun scale.

I've got one in .36 and .44.

I had to give up my Uberti Cattlemans in .357Mag.

I don't have picts of my 2 .38's.

My first is my Father's duty pistol, a Model 10 Smith and Wesson that was made some time back in the 30's (looks like Agentwhale's, 4 inch pencil barrel Hard Chromed)and a Model 36 S&W with subnosed barrel. a very good back piece.

It's a pretty hot round, and compared to some other handgun rounds, is actually big.

Oh, I KNOW they are overrated. I just want to say I shot one. There's  no way I'd throw down the $1.2k wanted for one. Good pistol hunting round though.

Over priced for sure, pay over $1,000 for a .50 cal or just under $1,000 for a .454 ect. Video game and kids who know nothing have ruined the .50 cal.

my brother has an older 357 mag from my late great uncle.  not sure what kind, all I know is that when you shot it, you didn't just get the kick, you got a shockwave from your wrists, all the way down to your toes.

not to mention it was dead on accurate.

I much preferred his glock17 and the remington 1911 style 45.

i shot a 454 raging bull once.  didnt hit crap, but that at least includes my face with the revolver.

Mainly because it is a good round.

When loaded to combat levels it delivers a nice hard blow, while being controllable, all packaged into fairly small, light weight platforms.

If you want to hunt with a .357 you can stoke them pretty hot, and if you run it out of a carbine, then you get a handy little carbine and cartridge.

You can also generally run the smaller, less powerful and generally cheaper .38 Specials out of the same gun. Thats what I did for Cowboy Action shooting. Handloaded .38's took way less powder than a .357, so you get more bangs out of a can of powder.

In newer models you can have more than 6 shots in your rolly. With the bigger rounds, even full sized weapons have lowered capacity. The Taurus Raging Bull, IIRC, holds 5 rounds of .454.

Which is one of my favorite training drills - I am sure most others have tried this as well.  Load your revolver with a random mix of .357 and .38 special, and don't peek before shooting.

Will very quickly teach you out of shot anticipation and recoil compensation.

Snap caps are fun, but they lock up an autoloader, and it's one thing to practice shooting with snap caps and another to thump out live rounds.

Having different velocity rounds in a loading helps show up what you doing wrong.

Agreed, but snap caps do allow you to discipline yourself for the basics, body aligment, sight picture, breathing, trigger pull, etc. I have never use them in an automatic, only revolvers. I use the for double action and single action practice.

Actually thats a good point, the snaps will work in any DA/SA and DAO pistol, it is only in single action and Glock style safe action pistols that they don't work that well unless you want to practice stoppages.
