this is an honest and legitimate question. today in political science some  made some stupid comment "well of course free health care works for canada, it always works when its not being applied in an actual country"to which the professor replied-"yes, thats true, canada really isn't a country" so tell me, what the hell is Canada? btw-i did a facepalm when i heard that |

The prof was probably referring to the fact that Canada is technically a commonwealth of the UK, much like Scotland and N. Ireland, it has it's own autonomy and it's own parliament, but the head of state is still the queen. But for all intents and purposes it is a sovereign nation which exercises autonomy even though it is technically a British protectorate/mandate. Actually our head of state is the Governor General, who the reports to the queen.

I'm drawing a blank because it's late(early) and I am more focused on the 2 day beach vacation I am about to go on but I believe it works because Canadians don't gripe about paying as much as they do in Taxes as Americans do. We could have it and it could work but thanks to that whole Tea Party thing we get all up in arms about our taxes. You can't have your DELICIOUS HOME MADE APPLE PIE (cough*tallen*cough) and eat it too! Canada does not have free healthcare. In fact, where I came from (New Brunswick) has 15% sales tax.

Actually I think the professors comment was a direct result of her feelings of being Canadian. More than not Canada is only seen as America's attic, and not a true independant country. A world perception.
Canada's health care system only "works" due to the smaller population. Now the definition of "works" can be debated. I do believe Engineer the Canadian that worked for Tippmann and had two children (so goes the anchor baby immagration arguement)while living in Indiana, on his "forced" return to Canada, still drives into Washington State for healthcare for the kids and pays for him and wife too if needed. What does that tell you about the Candian Health Care System. |

It tells us that 1 man doesn't like it? I havn't really been to the hospital all that much. Once for a concussion once for an absest tooth, and once for a broken elbow. The only thing that "I" can say that is bad about it is the waiting time. When I had a Concussion I had to wait for 3 hours. Absest Tooth. 2 hours of blinding pain untill the meds rolled on through :) The broken elbow I was in and out within 1 hour.(Quick) ------------- I ♣ hippies. |

Tical, the only 3 gynecological cancer specialists in NewFoundland are leaving because they have no good pay. So if there are women with gynecological cancer, they have to leave their families and fly to another Province. Its not just 1 person. The reason pay is a factor is because with a universal healthcare system the government can only pay so much with a fixed budget. And in the other province they go to, they get twice the pay. -------------

Canada implemented their health care system so that smaller provinces would have a dearth of qualified medical professionals as they all flee to better paying provinces. We also know that Canadians HATE Newfies almost as much as they hate the Quebecois. Thus, Canada is ethnically cleansing the nation of Newfies by ensuring they have poorer health care. Lies. Newfies are absolutely awesome. I've never met/drank with a Newfie I didn't like.
