So through a series of event i ended up with a nasty beat up old ebolt 98, and with it decided to remove the paint via sandblaster, and grind off the lettering. Heres a pic of what it was before I did anything. The paint is spraypaint over what was a crappy paintjob, and the spraypaint is starting to peel off. The inside of the reciever halves was also covered in goo. But i already cleaned it off so no pics of that.
Now I've finally finished grinding off the lettering with a dremel and a rotozip. There's still a few dimples that I need to fix but that'll come soon.
After I get it sandblasted I'l post more pics, but after that i'm still not totally sure what route I should take to painting it. Oldpbnoob mentioned that it might be worthwhile to not paint it and just polish it. Any help or ideas for painting is appreciated.

Yeah, I nicked it a lil' bit so took it down a little more so it looked better. Have not tried stripper yet, because I heard that sandblasting would do a better job. Maybe, maybe not, I've not sandblasted anything before so if it wouldn't be good to sandblast it let me know? |

| What kind of sandblaster do you have? It's not good to mix sandblasting media when you've been blasting aluminum with Steel. As far as paint, I liked how my flat green/desert tan paintjob turned out. About 5 light coats of the paint will make it good and hard, not flakey or anything. You can get this paint at autozone/walmart or probably anywhere else you buy paint. I think it's made by krylon. |

It's not good to blast Al and then Steel and vice versa. Something about the steel sharpening the media and then it getting indented in the Al since its a softer metal. Not sure exactly how it works, I just know we have to have two different blasters at the shop: one for Al and one for all other metals. Anyone who knows what they're talking about more than me wanna step in?

If you have access to your own sand blaster, it probably will do a better job, but if not, stripper is probably cheaper and will do a good job. The money you save on getting it sandblasted, you can put towards getting it powdercoated or duracoated. I am not sure what HA is saying, but it may have to do with what media you use to sandblast. If you are doing it yourself, you may have to watch for using too hard of media and pitting the body. If you are sending it out to have professionally done, they should know what to use. | There's a guy I know that has his own sandblaster, and uses it on lightweight bike frames. Which are usually aluminum. He did all his mechanic work when he raced motorcycles and when he was a cyclist. so I think he knows what hes doing. |
