I have a J&J barrel on my Automag and am assuming it is polished, not chromed? Due to the age, it has some minor scratches etc. Does anyone have experience with polishing these? I took my dremel and a conical polishing wheel with some wax to see it it would do anything and tried on a small area. I don't see any difference. Any one ever had one of these?

I've got a couple of J&Js; one of which has gotten like you describe. Given the ceramic coating on the interior, I've never been brave enough to take a polishing compound/tool to it. What I have done, when they get really fouled up (due to exceptionally cruddy paint or once because of an old straight shot squeegee that left rubber residue inside the barrel) is clean them thoroughly. I start with a good long soak in hot soapy dishwater, follow it with a thorough scrubbing with a bottle brush (being careful not to let the metal part of the brush touch the barrel interior), rinse (a lot), squeegee dry (with a decent pull-through), apply a light coat of Rain-X with a paper towel, and polish with a battle swab.
It seems to do the trick.

I was actually talking about the outside of the barrel. It has a finish that I am assuming is polished not chrome.

^^^ I have to admit that I never worry about the outside.
