He sounds like an SNL skit about Tom Brokaw.

Question:  This "town hall" format that McCain likes - does it make him look old when he wobbles around, or does it remind everybody of his war wounds?

Why can't the American workers just be "good?"

Why do they always have to be "the best in the world?"

Hyperbole is annoying.

I think McCain has been practicing some new lines, while Obama is sticking to old ones.

McCain passed on "maverick" and went with "reformer" instead.

Also "look at our records, not just our rhetoric."

So far Obama is all old stuff, I think.

And his plan for fixing Medicare sounds a lot like President Camacho's three-point plan for fixing the economy.

So, having slept on it and read some of the polls, my theory is this:

McCain went pretty hard on the offensive, as was required since he is behind.  This probably helped him.  But - by going offensive, he allowed Obama to address one of his flaws (his perceived coolness) by indignantly defending himself.  Obama showed righteous anger without getting riled, which I think settled some doubts about whether he really cares.

Therefore McCain's offensive strategy may have backfired by benefiting Obama more than McCain.

Also interesting was the lack of attacks related to Ayers and Wright.  Clearly done on purpose.  The folks at NRO are livid about this, but I can only conclude that the staffers determined that while these "bad friends" issues motivate the far right, they alienate the middle.

Either way, I think this is officially the end.  It would take something drastic for Obama to lose now.

I commented on this in chat during the debate. Obama's reference to the straight talk express, his semi-passive-aggressive quips before his actual response, his frustration regarding his chance to provide refutations to McCain's responses, and (my personal favorite) his "Well, look..." that was effectively a "who the hell gave the mic to Grandma Senility?" made me rethink my comment in chat at the very begining of the debate that alluded to Obama's dgaf attitude.

McCain really needs something big to help his campaign out now that his VP pick has shown that mediocrity is an acceptable goal for the VP seat and that he can't come out ahead enough in debates to bridge the gap between him and Obama.

I don't mean the term offensively, if it came off that way. I actually like a lot of Paul's positions. Paultard is more of a term of endearment for his rabid, mostly college-age supporters that still think he has a shot or something.

Iteresting to see your opinion on this, Bruce. It's not over yet, and I hope Obama keeps gaining ground. I'd really like to see a landslide victory. I'm still worried though. I think Palin is really starting to become a thorn in McCain's side, rather than a Godsend.

I saw one guy on CBS (I think) make an interesting point. He was one of the "uncommitted" voters in their post-debate discussion. He said that McCain going on the offensive reminded him too much of the GOP's "with us or against us" attitude of the last 8 years, and said that it was something he was tired of.

I rarely take offense to anything like a name, it's just frustrating when people associate the stupid people that support a candidate with the candidate him/herself.
