ACDC's new album comes out Saturday I think, but I just finished downloading it.  Listening to it now, I'm hoping its really good, as ACDC is one of my favorites.

They are playing in Toronto here soon and I'm debating on going. My friend grabbed up 5 nice tickets.

That first song is actually pretty good.

But, like every other AC/DC song, the radio is overplaying it constantly, and I'll be sick of it before Christmas.

And I don't think there's a Bob Dylan song out there that doesn't annoy the crap out of me.

AC/DC is coming to town in December. Needless to say, I've got tickets. :)

This is perhaps the hardest I've seen you fail in a while, way to raise the bar.

I will give you that there are certain similar sounds to most of their songs, but not nearly as bad as some of the crap that's of the more 'modern' genres. Geez, half the time I don't know who the heck I'm listening to, it all sounds exactly the same.

....I haven't heard Black Ice yet, I just hope their comeback album isn't as 'epic' as St. Anger was for Metallica.

You shouldn't have that problem with the new AC/DC album. They never change their sound...this will sound just like Back in Black!

That won't hurt my feelings any.

But I'll admit, I actually threw out the St. Anger CD I got. I got halfway through it, then walked it out to the dumpster and got rid of it.

Given that Back in Black is one of the greatest rock albums of all time, sounding like that wouldn't be a bad thing.

Yes, a lot of songs from AC/DC sound very similar - but when that sound is awesome, I approve.

The excel thing was kinda neat/different.  But come on, its ACDC, do they even need a video?

Anyways, I've been listening to the cd more and more, its starting to grow on me.  I like the song 'Money Made'.

AC/DC is one of those bands that I enjoy, but never plan to own an album of or make an effort to. It's enjoyable to hear them on the radio and I haven't heard anything that I didn't enjoy, but on the same token I didn't hear anything that made me want to absolutely fall in love with the band like so many people have today. I wonder to myself sometimes if the people I know that say they "love" AC/DC actually love the music or love the fad that if they "love" the band people will think they are cool because it's "in" to like what was cool in the 70's and 80's.

I like acdc and will probably get the album, but I am already gonna be sick of most of the cd by the time it comes out. I hate it when radio stations play nothing but the new singles nonstop. Like the first day when rock and roll train was ever played on the radio I was driving to school on my way to football and I hear exclusively on this radio station we hhave it ACDC's new single. We will be playing it every half hour. After the song finishes I switch to another station and oh wow guess whats playing. I swear for about 2 weeks straight I heard that song at least 3 times a day. So I have concluded that radio stations shouldn't be allowed to ruin songs. THey should just play them in moderation. Maybe bands just shouldn't release any songs off their new album until it comes out. Then peole wont be sick of their songs before the cd even comes out.

Who will want to buy the CD if they aren't familiar with any of the songs?

Besides, the bands make good money from radio play, often more than they make on record sales.

Bands make about 10% of suggested retail price per album sold, so they average about a dollar per album sold, which most of that goes back to the record company to pay their expenses.  They have to sell about a million albums (on average) before the band itself even starts making money.  Assuming the band didn't write their own material, if they did, they get a lesser cut, the record companies say it's because they're also getting song-writing royalties, which is funny, because publishing companies give them a smaller cut when they record their own music, and say it's because they're making money off record sales as well.

I forget how much it is bands make off radio plays, but it's not much, and it all depends on market size and what times it's played.  Mostly all based on assumption.  I'd go into greater detail, but I can't remember all the rules off the top of my head, and I think my music industry/music law books are at the office.

I wonder that too.  I find that with games like Guitar Hero, a lot of younger people are getting into older music.  Go back 10 years ago and ask my friends if they know 'Free Bird'.  They'd probably say no.  Ask them today; "OMG Freeeeeeebird is so sweet, I love that song".

My dad had a big influence on me when it comes to music.  I grew up on the old stuff.

Yeah, cause there's nothing cooler than two guys on stage that should be dead from drug abuse by now attempting to relive their prime years through their most embarrassing album release ever. Seriously? They released it on a saturday, at walmart, for nearly 9 bucks. As far as I'm concerned you lose your "artist" status when you hit that point. It's just sad.

The Walmart deal was quite a good deal for them.

AC/DC's last CD, "Stiff Upper Lip" was released in 2000. In the first week, it sold 131,000 copies, and has shipped 900,000 currently. Week 1 sales for "Black Ice" have destroyed those records (780,000 copies sold), and will probably soon beat the total sales for the last album.

In the future, I think you'll see more and more bands using alternative forms of music distribution, as they are fed up with record labels.

Talent according to you. This is a big part. You can't tell me that the millions of fans this band has had world wide since their beginning like them only because they were a fad and it was the "cool" thing to do. They're popular for a reason.

And Angus Young can play the guitar better than you.

Saying a band sucks usually is a very stupid statement.  Try creating music yourself, I guarantee most of you will suck at creating something that lots of people will like (taking away the fact that lots of people will enjoy a band because everyone else does like a flock of sheep/insane marketing etc...).

The longevity of popularity has to account for something. If you don't believe so, then perhaps you ought to find a nice quiet room to spend the rest of your life in where you get to be surrounded by soft toys and brightly colored bits of string.

I'm a musician, I play shows frequently in my college town, and I have enough fans to the point where people know my name. I create music, and I know for a fact all ACDC does is throw 3 or 4 power chords together, put a sick solo in, and call it good. Then people just eat it up.

I get why people like them. All I'm saying is they really aren't that good of musicians. Yeah, Angus Young is good...but he's a good guitarist. I don't think any of them are good musicians.

AC/DC are good entertainers, regardless of musical talent.

They write good songs using limited song-writing skills. (I'm not saying they don't have the skills, but if a simple song sounds good and sells well, why make it a complex song? It's worked for 3 Doors Down as well)
They've been around, what? 30 years now?  They're still touring, still getting well played on the radio (some would argue overplayed), and they're still selling albums.

Apparently they're doing something right.

As for the college musician bashing a band for putting 3 or 4 power chords together, I would really like to hear some of his influences, as he just bashed probably 90% of popular rock out there now.  3 or 4 power chords doesn't make a good song, no, but it does make a radio friendly song.
