Cow drowned into the sea for being impregnated by human
Thu, 10/23/2008 10:59 AM | Bali

(JP/Alit Kertaraharja)

Villagers from Julah in Tejakula, Buleleng, tow (see photo) a pregnant cow behind a boat into open sea as part of a local traditional ritual.

The cow, which is five months pregnant, was thrown out to the sea about 3 kilometers from land Monday. The villagers believe the animal was impregnated by a village elder.

During the ritual the man, who was caught red-handed having sexual intercourse with the cow two months ago, joined the boat trip in order to throw away his clothes to to symbolize him discarding his sins.

Julah customary village head Ketut Sidemen said the ritual, called gamya gamana, or freak weeding, and had been conducted there for generations. The decision to perform the ritual was made a local residents meeting.

In line with customary regulations, the perpetrator, identified only as PS, 70, was sanctioned to fund the expensive ceremony, which aimed to cleanse him of any bad influences.

Luh Ketut Suryani, a professor and activist, deplored the sancation against PS.

She said drowning a cow was baseless because sexual intercourse between a human being and am animal could not cause pregnancy due to the different chromosomes and genes of the two.

"The cow is not guilty, why shoud it be drowned? Why don't just use a symbol like what was done by the perpetrator?" she said.

Suryani's said she was concerned dealt with the financial situation of the owner, who lives below the poverty line.

"The cow, which has a high price, had to be thrown away. It will be a pity for the owner, who is already poor and is now forced to lose his priceless belonging." -- JP/Alit Kertaraharja

Unless McCain can capitalize on this to bring foreign policy back to the table and turn enough people back to him.

Ugh.  It's doubtful that "American soldiers", attacked civilians with the purpose of killing them, and then extracting.  It's obvious that there was more to the situation than that.  No such thing as bad press though, eh?
I'm pretty sure this isn't going to become another event he can capitalize on..you've got to be kidding...

It all depends on Syria's response. Mc Cain has been calling Obamas pledge to go into any country to get bin laden or his officials without the governments consent as ignorant, naive, and dangerous.

It all depends on how Syria responds.

A few times since the end of last year. It was a big deal when Obama brought this up in the dme primary debates. Even Biden called him out on it. About a month or two later the Bush administration started sending in Predators to take out high value targets due to Pakistan being uncooperative or they were being tipped off by low level gov workers who were sympathetic ruining the strike.

Right, what was McCain's quote though?

Something along the lines of "Whatever it takes to get Bin Laden. Even if I have to meet him at the gates of Hell"?   McCain is talking about invading Lucifer's domain.  How is that any better then Obama possibly sending special forces into Syria?

Edit: found the McCain quote: "I'll get him.  I will follow Bin Laden to the gates of hell and I will get him.  I promise you that."

He probably did, but McCain's saying it had more bearing on the topic I thought?

How many people have used the lipstick on a pig comment, but they singled out Obama when he said it after Palin's bulldog comment?

Funny how some troops manage to fly into a off-limits country and land, shoot a bunch of people including children ON A CONSTRUCTION SITE, then leave.

That's believable.

I love how the numerous articles headline it as if "THE US ATTACKS SYRIA!!!!".

Its a big deal, but not the beginning on WW3 as most people want to push as they can be the forefront of the government hate bandwagon.

Am I going to have to be the first to say this?

So?

Where's the evidence that A) They were unarmed civilians and B) There were children?

Syria, and Iran, have much to gain by making this look like a cold blooded assault on a family building a house.

I honestly could give a damn about a countries "sovereign borders" if they support terrorism. But that's just me.

This thread makes me think of that one scene in Full Metal Jacket.

"How can you shoot women and children?"

"It's easy! Just don't lead them as much!"

village has enough cow rapists that they have developed
rituals to deal with it.

I think the wrong place was bombed.

I agree with you, but the whole topic is about an October Surprise. The implication is Bush is trying to rig the election.

The election is in November.  Should I be "pre-surprised" for it, or something?  Because otherwise I have to wait till next month.

Get back to me on that.

This could be kind of a big deal and the elections is next week.  I'm also reserving judgment, but have to wonder if Bush is drinking again or just going for broke trying to do as much damage to Al-Qeada as possible before leaving office.

I attempted to be diplomatic and not throw that in there, but I'm wondering if he just realizes that it really doesn't matter what he does to piss people off anymore so he's completely disregarding world opinion and smashing people he doesn't like.

I for one will miss the Bush tax cuts.

You know, the ones that will increase taxes under obama (even for people making $40,000 a year or more... But, no one talks about... (because they "expire", so they are not considered a tax "increase"...)

No wonder Obama won't take questions from the press anymore...

..you do know that Bush doesn't sign off on each and every mission that takes place, don't you?  And it's more than likely that all isn't what it seems.  We don't go into a village and "shoot innocent civilians" unless they really weren't.  Making a habit of believing the press is a bad one.
