.....Those stupid little roadside campaign signs.
I absolutely hate those things. First, they're nasty little eyesores. Try taking a nice little autumn drive through the Castkill mountains and amongst the foliage there's 17,000 of these idiot things for local and national elections.
What bothers me more than people having them on their front lawn are the ones you see off the side of the highway- as if I need to be reminded of whose running. Then you get to an intersection and there's one for every political candidate from every party for every level of election.
Second: they might as well have a bull's eye on them for vandals. I was just reading the local paper and came across a 'letter to the
editor' from a woman who condemned some kid for running over one of
those signs. She didn't mention her political affiliation, and I don't
care. I got a laugh though when she used terms like "violation of 1st
amendment rights" and "un-American" The vandalism isn't always politically motivated either. Sometimes its just kids being stupid. Hell I remember a few years back I stole one because it said "Hooker for assembly" I haven't got a flippin clue who 'Hooker' was, he wasn't even running in my district. That had NO political motivation whatsoever.
They seem to be more trouble than they're worth, and they're annoying as all holy hell.
/idiotic little friday morning rant.

Yea, it does get kind of old. I see a lot more signs for McCain/Palin than Obama/Biden but I guess that's what I get for living in Southern Missouri. My parents have some out in there front yard and it's whatever, that's their thing. My roomate and I don't have any, but that may be because we have different political views. A couple of my friends actually alomst got arrested in 04 for setting some on fire. Ahh good times.

What bothers me is that people are getting so bent about these things getting stolen, vandalized. It's happening on BOTH sides. I've seen Bush/Cheney signs sliced to ribbons, I've seen Hillary signs paintballed...
but like I said, most of the time I don't believe its politically motivated...they're easy targets for juvenile stunts.

Run over or steal an Obama sign, and that's bad news.
Do http://cbs2.com/local/Sarah.Palin.Effigy.2.852046.html - this and its okay.
http://smoothstoneblog.com/2008/10/palin-effigy-good-obama-effigy-bad.htm - Even better
Granted, an Obama effigy might have some connotations that go beyond politicall, but wow, so much for fair play here.
I'm cranky today.

I should put a bunch of Obama signs in my front yard to
piss off my parents. They're in VA until next week, and
I'm going home for the weekend.

In my local paper, people have been crying about their signs being stolen and stuff. I agree, who cares. I really doubt signs are gonna sway an undecided individual to vote for one person over another. And ya, they look bad too.

""They are frustrating
my attempt to use my First Amendment right to speech and political
speech is supposedly the most protected," Frampton said. "It bugs me
that people are breaking the law because it bugs them so much.""
Also Reb, to the hanging effigies. Kentucky and California are two different places I'm pretty sure.
If someone in Kentucky thinks it's bad enough to pull the Obama one down how does that mean:
"This is just an example of the new police state under martial law which is all that you will see if THE WRONG ONE gets elected"
Not to mention the hanging Obama was on a University of Kentucky campus. Palin's was made by the homeowner and put in their yard.

Different places, sure, but my point is that you can't scream and yell that stealing signs is so horrible when people in your own camp are hanging effigies and such. I'd be 'Un-American' to run over an Obama sign, but there isn't anything wrong with lynching a Sarah Palin doll? Its the mentality, not the location that needs to be questioned.

I'm talking about the mentality of narrow minded political motivations. Two kids get arrested for hanging an Obama. Hang Palin and you can call it artistic.
Different places? Yes. Sure, but my point with the links was to build on my irritation with people getting bent out of shape over a sign. Hanging effigies is happening around you, regardless of if the person gets arrested or gets off with a warning after calling it artistic- and you're complaining about a road sign.

I'll give you that. But what about the ones randomly stuck on the shoulder of a main road with no idea to whom they belong? Residential use is one thing, but as I clip down the main road and see "McCain/Palin" stuck in the ground in front of the trees, It just angers me.

Pure win (even if it is illegal.*)
I've had a few random signs for local elections show up in my yard. I was just tossing them in the garage to throw away later, but I think I will save them now and take them to the paintball field for targets when I get a chance. (Good idea Tallen.)

in my old town (in canada)a guy was running for Premier and his name was Dick Ducet. There was a billboard with the guy's name and a life-size picture of him on it and some kid drew and made a *male organ* out of his forehead. That was pretty epic. My sister was driving at night when she first saw it and she saw someone dressed in all black standing still as he could in the hedge beside the picture.

I hate telemarketers so I handled it in the most mature way I could.

I don't think a chainsaw is a good idea. Max Brooks advised against the use of chainsaws for 4 reasons, spreading the Solonum virus to yourself, the noise attracts more Z's, and they are unreliable in a hurry and run off of gas making it difficult to refuel in a hurry when you run out of fuel.
