That's...good? What kind of work did they have you doing?

I got the flexors and extensors of the forearm down today in gross anatomy lab, which I was pretty pleased with.

I do oil changes/tire rotations right now. My friends dad made a comment about not taking their jeep up there anymore since I'm working there, he was joking but if he saw some of what went on I know he wouldn't.

I had some friends who worked at Jiffy Lube, and some others who worked at a Shell, they said you end up doing some pretty cool jobs over time, and make some good money.

Eh, I have an advanced metals class and autos class, so the first 4 hours of every day I'm in a shop, usually 2 hours metals then 2 hours autos, so I'm used to being in a shop for a good amount of time.

In all the time I've spent in the lab at school nothing in the auto shop ever really scared me. Well today at work, I finally found what scares me,

The Cheetah Bead Sealer.

Used to get stubborn beads to seat when putting tires on rims. Air it to 160 PSI, stick it in there and open the valve. Holy crap. He goes over and yells, watch your ears and all of a sudden I can't hear anything, the air rushing our so far deafened me for a moment. It was something else.

actually when i worked at a quicklube it dried out my hands...

probably because i washed my hands/arms like 20 times a day to avoid always smelling like motor oil, as well as other problems meantioned.

we had one guy that would fill tires to 65+ psi on the tire machine to get the beads to seat... i would go on break right about the time i saw him mounting the tire...

Try seating semi truck tires. Or the worst part of it. Taking the damn tires off since there is no machine meant for taking them off. Just your own strength and 4 foot long tire tools.

Or whats scarier is when your told a split rim tire is deflated when its actually not... yeah someone almost got hit for that one

Yea also, tire pressure sensor units inside the tire are the dumbest thing ever. On the tires I did, all four sensors were messed up so they all just broke when you tried to take out the valve stem, thus requiring you to replace them all...

Four other guys were standing there and they all said they go bad a lot. The valve stem caps come off then they rot on the inside and break. I've never broken one before then either and I've done a lot of tires.

Back when I was younger and my Grandma was still the Commander of her local American Legion she had a side job, it was the job of delivering food to the olds folks at their home. I used to go with her a lot, She would get all the "ohhh what a cute grandson you have !" comments and I'd get all kinds of free food, such as cookies, brownies and other home made food. It was a win win.

Got to drive one hell of a bad ass truck today.

Any work done to the engine?  Diesel Rams can get even more BA with the right work done.  Propane, injectors, exhaust, maybe a chip.

Sounds a lot like my first job... I hope you work for a better place than I did. But I can at least say that I learned a lot.

I remember trying to get an oil pan drain plug bolt off of an ancient Toyota. It would not come loose, no matter how hard I tried. I finally gave up and got the air impact wrench I used for removing wheels.

That did the trick, but a little too well. The bolt came out in a fraction of a second, followed by 4 quarts of very old and dirty Toyota vomit oil, most of which ended up on my head and shoulders.

I loved working on cars, my cars that is. I found I did not enjoy working on other people's cars that much at all. After four years of auto shop, and 2 years as an apprentice, I returned to college, then did a tour in the Army, returned to college, and finally earned a degree.

I recently became a teacher, and so far I love the job. I still like working on cars, I have my Jeep, my GTO, and an old F250 4x4 which looks very much like the OP's truck.
