The last pic is of the Honzenji Temple, originally built in the year 807. It was a popular visiting place for the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, who first visited it in 1591. The building has been rebuilt many times over the centuries (wood doesn't last forever), the current version dates to the end of the 18th century. The picture of the trees I took on a small mountain top. The mountain top was very level, and the trees had been planted by the nearby farmers years ago. As I was leaving I found a small shrine and marker indicating that the mountain top was the former site of Tama castle (which was why the area was so level). Tama castle was destroyed centuries ago during the civil war era, not so much as a stone remains. Were it not for the marker, few people would know that it ever existed.  ------------- For I will wander to and fro, I'll go where I no one do know, |
