| well it seems when ever the phone is picked up I lose my network, I'm still connected but I lose the internet. Any ideas why this might happen? |

id say your network is on the same frequency as the phone
so new router

Try changing channels on your wireless access point.
B, G and N wireless protocols all include the 2.4 GHz range, which is very common with household items, including cordless phones, baby monitors, and microwave ovens. Try changing channels to find a clear frequency. |

| Your phone and router are on the same channel. Go to your router settings and check the channel, it's probably 1 or 11. If it's 1, put it to 11, if its 11, put it to 1. I had the exact same problem at my last apartment, and that will solve it. |

I'll second that. I used to have this problem myself using wireless G and some 2.4GHz cordless phones. Every time the phone would ring or somebody would answer, the connection would slow to a crawl and usually die out. I kept changing channels until the problem went away and it hasn't been back since. I would make use of that feature before buying a new router, no sense in spending another $50 when a few clicks could solve the problem. Especially since a new router would likely have the same issue if using the same frequency.
