Ha, funny you mentioned it, I ordered mine a few days ago, so I'm pretty pumped for it to come in. I'm really hoping it makes a difference, mainly in my bps using my super response trigger, but I think one way or another it's gotta improve some stuff. It's nice because I've been looking for a lighter hammer forever now and have only stumbled upon the Dark Horizon hammer, which is $60 and there's not much dealers. This thing's made by TechT too so I'm thinking it will rock, let's hope I'm right. There is a thread on A5OG posted by Todd from TechT asking for feedback from people that have either gotten samples to test or just purchased the bolt. He just posted the thread on the 14th of this month. Alright, anyway so I got this beast in the mail today and was pretty pumped. So first things first, this hammer is ALOT lighter than the stock hammer for the 98. It's nice and slick too as well as shiny. So it definately looks and feels alot better than the stock hammer. Now some more things. I put this in my gun along with the tightest spring from the Maddmann spring kit. I think this would be the best option, because the loss in weight will overall decrease the amount of momentum it will have upon hitting the pin, so there's no denying that. So accompanied with the tighter spring this bolt did, as could be seen easier from dry firing, it does hit the pin bit quicker than the stock.. As for shooting the beast with paint and air in the gun, I couldn't notice a drastic amount of reduction in the loudness of it, or even the kick that much, but I suppose it very well may have, just not noticably. One thing it did help was my super response trigger's rate of fire as well. I was shooting around 16 to 17 bps with it before and it went up 3 to around 19 bps now, so it's fair to say there was a slight increase in that. Overall though, I only tested this thing out a little bit, I didn't take it for any accuracy runs yet or anything and I'll have to wait till I'm out on the field playing to see a difference too, which will be a while. But in conclusion this thing is alot lighter and is pretty sweet looking (not that looks matter that much for a hammer). And accompanied with a stronger spring I think it has perfect ability to increase your cycle rate a shot or 3. As far as kick and that other stuff, I'm not sure that's going to make to biggest of difference, but if anything it sure as heck won't hurt.

| I don't see why it wouldnt fit an ACT marker. You would lose the ACT as you are replacing the rear bolt, but I don't see any reason it wouldnt fit. If I remember correctly the linkage arms are the same lengh and the holes are in the same position on the hammer. |

The bolt would fit in an ACT marker, but it would be incompatible with the Anti-Chop springs and spring pin as it lacks the groove for them to fit into. Without those springs, I do not think the the linkage arm would reconnect with the rear bolt. It would be possible for the marker to fire without the front bolt moving to allow paintballs to feed. (Noise but no paint output.) Edited Addition: I forgot to add that I am not a big fan of after-market internal parts for Tippmanns. They generally fail to reliably enhance performance and some even interfere with proper operation. -------------

I sold my 98ACT, so I can't compare the linkage arm, but I do happen to have an ACT rear bolt sitting around and the hole that the linkage arm fits into is in the same spot as the standard 98 rear bolt/hammer. |

The linkage arm would fit, but it would have to be an ACT linkage arm in order to fit in the shells. This means the arm would move up and disengage from the rear bolt as both bolts moved towards the rear of the marker after firing; but once it was disengaged there would be nothing to push it back forward and reengage the two bolts. (Yeah, I really screwed up my explanation above; the problem is that after firing the front bolt would stay back as opposed to staying forward and not coming back.) The second set of springs at the top of the rear bolt, which couldn't be used with the after-market bolt, are required for pushing the front bolt back towards the front of the gun so the linkage arm can drop back down and reconnect the two bolts. The marker would work properly if you could replace the ACT linkage arm with one from a standard Tippmann, but I'm not sure it would be compatible. It's hard to tell for sure from the schematics, but with the linkarm pins in place, I do not think a standard linkage arm would fully engage with the rear bolt. Without those pins, the linkage arm would have sufficient play in the area where the ACT linkage arm moved for disengaging that it would be at risk of randomly disengaging. Someone needs to test this because now I want to know for sure. Edited Note: If anyone is curious what I'm basing my suppositions on they should check out the schematics for both ACT and standard 98s and the ACT animation on the Tippmann website. -------------

However, I will say that when you look at the Platinum parts list, the ACT and non-ACT utilize the same receivers. If this is the case, than I would think you could just replace the linkage arm at most to get it to work? |

who is really having problems keeping control of their marker during sustained fire? It's not like the recoil is more than that found in a 22 rifle.
I suggest doing some push ups as a better upgrade mod. -------------

The new hammer in my opinion will become the single best upgrade for the money
for Tippmanns.
Our team captain posted a lengthy review in our private section. This short quote
summarizes it perfectly.
We use 98's and A-5' in Xball. My X7 will get one too.

Was shooting Charon'r A-5 with the hammer at indoor reball tonight.
You can still feel a buzzy vibration when you shoot, but NO kick at all.
The hammer is lighter than my LP kit hammer by 1/2 I think. It is not ACT capable. I use the front bolt ACT mod anyway so I'm ok. Too bad it's -5c at the moment, I'd really like to see how my paint groups.

So, I was bored and emailed TechT. I asked if the bolt would work on an ACT equipped 98 if the linkage arm was replaced. This was the reply from Todd Coulter:

One of our 98's with the TechT hammer I just finished tuning up. The kick is really just a vibration, you'd have to try one to know for sure.

It's a spring out of a ford transmission. Ford 4R100 TCC apply valve return spring, if you know any transmission guys. The anti chop mod works perfectly.
