Sangreti, you've gone from enthusiasm to fanboyism. A mech 'mag, especially one in the $300 range, is most likely not going to be able to compete in the speedball field.
I suggest an Ion. You can get a brand new Ion for $160, and that'll leave you plenty of money for a good tank and hopper.
If you want to spend $300 on just the gun, look at new Minis and PMR's. For used, you can get e-'cockers, Intimidators, Shockers, Angels, the works.

if you already have the hopper and tank...
then go for a new(unused) Proto SLG 08/09 or an 08 Rail

i recomend the mini. I am a big fan of them and used (target practice no playing) one once. It shot nicely and it was easy to walk. plus it was ridiculously lightweight.

Yeah, Ion, PMR, Invert Mini, you really can't go wrong.
i'd recommend the Ion because I have experience with it. 10 times easier to clean than my 98. I was so surprised when i took it apart the first time, it's so simple.
and if you look around *cough* model98.org and pbnation *cough* you can find a really good deal. i recently found an upped Ion on model98 for SUPER cheap considering the upgrades.

Did you have the Ion SE? The stock Ion doesnt have a bolt cap, meaning to get to the bolt you have to take the entire gun apart. It's easy once you get used to doing it, but i'd recommend a gun with easy access to the bolt.

I agree with the others, look into an Ion. That gives you plenty of money left over to play aroudn with and put some upgrades onto your gun.

Im going to stray from the pack...
Look into guns from Dangerous Power. I have an F8, and I absolutely love it. Almost no kick, AMAZING efficiency and feels so nice. The G3 is quite popular too, and they just got a price break to $300. The F8 will have to be purchased used if you want it at $300.
They have great customer service, too.
