Well, I finally broke down and bought an autococker. It's not technically my first one, but it's the first one I've bought for myself. Not just any autococker. One I've wanted since they were released a few years ago...

A Dye Ultralight!

With all original parts!

It is in fact drilled for eyes, the previous owner put an e-blade on it. I plan on keeping it mech, maybe even throwing on a pump kit later on.

I paid $250.00, a fair price in my opinion. All I have to do is attach the macroline fittings and time the 3-way (which I haven't done by myself in a looong time so if anyone knows a good walk through I'd appreciate it). I'm pretty excited, I always love the way the Reflex and Ultralight looked. I should just make a hobby of collecting rare markers, I seem to find them all the time.

Should be getting shipped today from NY, so probably 2-3 days before I get it. I'll post more pics when I get everything set up.

UPDATE:

I finally got it working, taking it out to shoot after work.

In the mean time, new pics! Now with Stiffi Barrel and CP Reg. Enjoy!

Nice looking gun. Reflex's are one of the nicer bodies in my opinion. Enjoy!

Negative, no eBlade, but it's a backup for my STDM5 so I'm well endowed in the electro department.

Few things beat the feel of a nice shooting mech cocker. I would say just throw a nice reg and rail/ASA and call it a day. Nice buy, by the way.

DeTrevni is still trying to convince me to let go of my one-of-one BM. Be careful, he may try to wrest that DYE from you.

Whats so good about the autocockers? I just sold one that was missing a barrel/regulator and asa for $64.00 on ebay.  I bought it with two other guns and it seemed like it would have cost to much to put back together so I sold it. Am I missing something?

Over my dead body. This is one of the only Ultralights I've seen for awhile, not gonna let it go easily. Unless he wants to give me that Redux

for $100 more you could have had a very nice cocker.

Autocockers are just really fun to play with, shoot and tinker with. They are usually quiet, can be made pretty consistent, and are eerily accurate when set up right. I have 4 and I wouldn't get rid of them for anything.

I was surprised to hear that. It looked old and outdated. Thanks for the input

One of these days, Tallen! She will be mine!

*sinister laugh*

Anyway, to be honest, I'm not a big fan of the Dye or Eclipse 'cockers. Just not my forte. That by no means implies I think you have an ugly marker, it just means you can keep it! Tongue

And 'cockers, to put it bluntly, ARE old and outdated. But there's a certain magic about them, combined with their ease of upgrading and smooth feel, that makes many people still love them. With an E-Blade, they can be just as fast as any other gun out there, and with milling, just as light.

Too bad, you would think that after a few decades someone would figure out how to make a high-quality autococker.

Yea I saw that Reflex on eBay as well. Was considering bidding on that, but all my gear is blue/grey/olive, and the Red would look kinda weird. But it's still a sick Reflex.

Well I'm taking it to a proshop today to get some assistance with timing the 3-way, probably get a stiffi barrel kit for it, new ASA and LPR, but other than that I want to keep it stock. Maybe I'll throw a pump kit on it in a few months, who knows

Woot! It came in the mail yesterday! It's pretty hawt, although there are a ton of chips in the ano. Grips are hard as rocks, so I'm getting some Dye Stickies mailed in. I bought a gloss black CP shorty reg, which works out well because I tried the regular size and it looked way too big. Then I decided the Duckbill ASA it came with was ugly (and just annoying) so I switched it out with a CP On/Off with rail (Both blue).

Now I just need to attach the macroline fittings, secure the macroline, and time it. I fiddled around with it for a bit yesterday, and realized I completely forgot how to time a cocker, although PBNation has been helpful with step by step instructions on how to do it.

Also, I'm considering having the Ano redone, and I'd like to go with the same fade but with a gloss finish vice powdercoating. I don't know if that's possible, but if it is I'd definitely pay the money to have this marker look like new again.

Edit: Oh yea, and when I took it to the local proshop yesterday someone tried to buy it from me! Maybe it was DeTrevni in disguise!?

Those cockers look so much better in the dust finish.

Well, I tried to time it by myself, and failed epically. I'll probably take it to another proshop after work today, I have a habit of screwing up my marker even more when I'm trying to fix it. Not a good habit at all.

haha, the lpr you want just enough to be able to cock the gun, and maybe just a little past that to make sure.

all of this is best done with the gun aired up (NO PAINTBALLS DONT SHOOT TEH HOUSE FOO), so you can check everything as you adjust it.

Ok. Bad News. The fail person who owned it before me put the 3-way hoses on backwards. Front hose is on the back, back hose is on the front. Hence why the gun (when aired up) just locks the bolt back and won't fire. Is there a quick way to fix this or do I have to buy new hoses?

Posted By: DeTrevni
Date Posted: 02 February 2009 at 10:18am
You could just swap the hoses, but that may weaken the connection between them and the barb. I'd just get new hose, but swapping should be a decent temporary fix.

So were the hoses actually on backwards, or was the timing just completely off?

The hoses were correct! That charleton-deceiver at the proshop can eat his own words.

My timing rod was just over a quarter inch too far forward. So yea, pretty far off.

But it's fixed now! Haven't put paint through her but was dry firing a bit and she sounded great!

Yea I would have fixed it earlier, but my STMD5 just broke as well, and was more keen on fixing that before timing my UL. At least I have one working gun now .

Oh yea, my STDM5 might have a blow noid. Constant leak from the trigger frame. I'm hoping it's just a bad o-ring though. I swear it's been nothing but problems since I bought it. Maybe I'll have to let it go one of these days if the right Excal or Viking comes my way.

Edit: And yes, once again, all credit to DeTrevni!
