I just bought my first 98 custom. When I screw in my CO2 tank, I hear a small leak at both ends of the gas line. Should I replace the gas line, and if so, should I use teflon tape or teflon paste at the ASA and the power tube?

no need to replace the line.. just take it off and use either the tape or the "paste" as you call it, whichever is your preference, either will work fine. afterwards put the line back on. good as new.

The leak seems to be coming from above the bolt (not the threaded part) near the ASA. I'm not sure if it's from the threads or the bolt near the power tube...would that change your opinion at all?

um, what you said makes no sense at all....
the ASA is on the bottom of the gun, its what the tank screws in to. If its leaking from the ASA and thread tape doesnt fix it... your O-ring on the tank is bad
if you use thread tape where the line goes into the Powertube/Valve and it still leaks, then you have an internal leak within the vale. Sometimes simply dropping some oil into the gun via the holes in the ASA, gasing it up and firing the gun a few times (without the barrel so oil doesnt get in it) will fix valve leaks. if not, then you may have to rebuild the valve and replace any bad looking O-rings or the cupseal.
