so i have this idea to reverse the cocking side of the 98C from the left side to the right side.
also i am planning to make my 98C a pump-ish gun with a spare rear bolt i have in my room...but thats another story.

so would drilling a new cocking slot on the right reciever of the gun, where the hopper connects and where the screws for the power tube go, screw up the semi-automatic functions, and if it does would my gun be a pump-action 98C forever?

to make my gun a pump all would have to do is remove or re-direct the blowback gas, so on and so forth.

your thoughts anyone?

Why would flipping the cocking lever require you to machine
the shells in the neck or valve area?
You simply taking the cocking knob out and puting it in the other side.
The new slot would mirror the old one.

Go for it.

Also, making a cocking knob that was on both sides would be interesting
and simple to make.

I think I have a couple of zero blowback valve bodies around still.
If you go to the pump system you welcome to have one.

well i just want to know if drilling and milling another cocking slot would ruin any sort of semi auto functions. if it does, then i may buy another 98 to do that with, but if not then ill drill and mill all i want.

no it should not.  i have seen it done and the other sied was actually filled in with some JB weld.  to close it off.  wht hardest part will be drilling the bolt properly so that the cocking rod fits in and doesnt fall out.

Top cocking is also very fun. It is a lot more milling and you have to drill a new hole in the bolt. But you get a really cool effect.
