Thoughts? Opinions?  I want to "boost" my marker/gun collection and was recommended the Ion.

I'd honestly go with one of the comparitive Proto markers. Unless you get a body kit that lets you access the bolt from the back of the marker, I wouldn't get an Ion. Yes, it is easy to get the bolt without the rear access, but it's a real pain sometimes.

They're not bad. They are money pits for sure though. Look at DP Fusions.

they are good  but they need a few ups, like a qev, new board
but they are good for their price and last a while

Another option is a spyder VS2. They are new now for under $100 and can fire 25 bps. I have one and its a great gun for the price. The only upgrade I added was a locking feed neck. Its more of a personal think, I just disliked the stock one.

There are many different types of http://paintballmarkers.blogsavy.com - paintball markers out there you can choose from, the Ion paintball marker is pretty cool, using mostly electronic features. But personally I would get a spyder, or a tippmann paintball marker, they have been my personal markers for a long time.

lolzer.

But I'll offer my moot and uninformed input anyway. I do not have an Ion, but have also been considering one. The feedback I have gotten is pretty consistent: Not the gun you want for your main gun if you are a hardcore kind of guy, but an excellent gun to "add to the collection." Inexpensive, good performer, basically reliable, and easy to operate. An excellent loaner for the newbie friend or backup and occasional toy.

I fully expect to pick one up one of these days.
