I was prowling on the internet when I came across https://www.pepperball.com/BVModules/ProductTemplates/BVC%202004%20Layout/Product.aspx?productid=6dbae2c1-8222-42db-a459-a6dc20260894 - https://www.pepperball.com/BVModules/ProductTemplates/BVC%202004%20Layout/Product.aspx?productid=6dbae2c1-8222-42db-a459-a6dc20260894
Is there a cheap, but reliable pistol that would fit the bill?

As I understand it, if you can get them, those things are potent. Meaning two or three is enough to gas up an entire small room. They are designed to hit the "bad guy" in the torso region and still disable him, so you don't need much. Knowing that, I'd have to say a simple Nel-Spot 007 would be the best bet, if you can find one. Ultra-reliable, very simple, easily repairable and, well, cool. But I'd be too busy using one for actual paintball instead of personal defense!

I believe i can get them. These were listed under "personal protection."
The Nel-Spot is cool, but do you have any suggestions for guns that are still in production?

Weeeeeellllll...
There's always the TPX when it comes out. Or maybe a custom built Automag pistol. I just don't think the STBB pistols on the market today are reliable enough for personal protection. Of course, there's also the Tac-8.
Edit: Check out the flashlight paintball gun they've got. Now THAT would be cool. :D

Thats alot of money for something like that, but I guess how do you place a value like that on your life... I wonder if they break down after time?

In order for these to be of any protection, wouldn't you basically have to keep an aired up PB pistol around all the time? After awhile, it will leak or damage the springs. Seems like if you have enough time to go, grab your PB pistol, load and air it up, you should be able to get in your car and drive away from the problem. Or call the cops.

Nah. Toss a 12g in a Piranha USP, tighten it so the pierce pin presses against the 12ie and put it in a convenient spot. When needed, cock the marker and pierce the 12ie. Ready in like 5 seconds.

^^ Guess that makes more sense. Still seems like it would be easier to just keep some pepper spray around or walk away.

Well, the advantage to a paintball gun/pepper launcher is range. In the event of a home invasion, you have to get up close and personal with the spray. With Pepperballs, you can fire shots in rapid succession at range. Not to mention, with modern paintball pistols, you can have them set up with a laser or flashlight (or both) with ease.
That, and you can more safely keep a loaded Pepperball gun in the house, and since it's cheaper, more than one. Well, that's relative to a firearm.
For home protection, I think Pepperballs are ideal, even over a firearm. However, for muggings, pepper spray or even a tazer would be better.

Huh. Guess I never really gave the home invasion thing much thought. Think I'll take my chances.

I'm not sure what you mean by "take my chances."

I think itsa great idea as far as home protections because if you kill the guy then you may be looking at a law suit from either his family or the state so i would much rather pepper him than that.

It would probably turn into one of those 8 page discussions where I end up getting accused of being a commi. Question has been asked and answered. I won't continue off course. ... for once.

Love how their law enforcement markers are all just modified Tippmanns. You know, like ones that they won't sell us but we could make and have set up to be an even more effective one than what their selling.

Good way to get yourself dead.
Also, if you shoot off a load of pepperballs inside your house....good luck getting rid of it.
Everytime your furnace kicks on it will be like getting peppersprayed.
Your dog will love you.

Well, considering I've had no experience with pepper spray, I openly admit I'm just going on theory here. So yeah, that would be a good point.

Pepper spray even the police issue style has a chemical shelf life. Yes it would be around for a while but it would fade in a few weeks. I know this from personal experience. I have several sprays from family members in law enforcement. One of the basic rules in the department here is if you carry/use it you have to be hit by it. It's a demonstration of what the effects are, how best to use it, and how best to deal with the effects in the case you are exposed while subduing a suspect or prisoner.

The powder has quite a bit more longevity than the liquid.
The powder inside the pepperballs is similar to the crystalline CS powder that we used in the military.
The shoot house we used to train in had so much CS powder mixed with the sand that whenever we kicked up a cloud of dust, everyones nose started running.
Either way....sorry for hijack.

Rap4 has a line of guns for those. However if I had to pick a company to trust with my life, it sure wouldn't be rap4.

Ken made the most important point in this thread and I'm going to elaborate on it. If you have an armed perpetrator in your house, intent on doing harm, and you can't get away; the last thing you want to use is non-lethal force. Once you start blasting pepperballs at the perp he is going to want to return fire/respond. As incapacitating as a pepperball to the chest may be, a .45 slug to the chest is generally more so. If you miss/or the ball fails to break, you will be dealing with a pissed off thug who thinks you just shot/tried to shoot him and is still willing/capable of doing you harm.
