i don't believe that for the sole fact that they wouldn't ship food, of any quality (especially one that used to be an animal) in just a cardboard box, which can be seen in the background. plus it would take too much work to get the stuff abck to a white-ish color, why waste their time mixing stuff together to have it turn out pink, that makes it at least a two step process, the second making it white in the chicken nuggets. thats a waste of time and money, something companies are fans of.

have you ever seen raw chicken, especially with all those additives?  You do have a good point with the boxes.

eville- i have, but. why not add something to the mixture to make it white off the bat, as opposed to adding more steps to the process later? companies shoot for the shortest, easiest way to produce a product and have it in its end state in the shortest, quickest possible time. that being said, why waste time or money on an extra, and most likely uneccessary step to the process?

"The Chicken McNugget is a small piece of minced chicken breast and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanically_separated_meat - mechanically separated meat held together with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phosphate - phosphate salts and some chicken skin"

"also known as mechanically recovered/reclaimed meat (MRM), is a paste-like meat product produced by forcing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beef - beef , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pork - pork or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken - chicken http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone - bones , with attached edible meat, under high pressure through a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sieve - sieve "

Raw chicken=pinkish. When fried it turns white.

jmac, i still don't believe a company can get away with shipping and/or storing the chicken paste or whatever it is in JUST a cardboard box. i have about 2 years of deli experience, nothing i have touched that has been called chicken or any other processed meat has come in JUST a cardboard box.

and on the off chance mcdonalds does? i don't believe that a picture would circulate about it for too long before the FDA stepped in

Google search mechanically separated meat that is what comes up.

It doesn't get shipped in the box. It moves on to step 2.

Cardboard boxes are cheaper than cleaning non disposable equipment to carry across the building  I'm sure.

I work in a supermarkets. Already prepared(fully) cakes come shipped in only cardboard boxes.  No plastic or anything.

It's not that unbelievable.

yes, and in the deli i worked at (also in a supermarket) the deli prepares the rotisery chickens, and they come in a giant plastic bag, inside the box. i just have a hard time believing they wouldn't just skip additional steps and toss in some white dye or something else.

Why would they put white die? It will cook white.

for real GI, meat changes color when it is cooked.  why would they put white dye to turn the raw product white when cooking will do the same thing.

G.I. Those boxes are waxed, that means they are no longer porous and can be used as a NSF approved food contact surface so long as they aren't re-used. The only reason the chicken you get at the deli comes in a bag inside a cardboard box is to keep cross contamination down. When using cardboard as a transfer material within the confines of a food prep area, the need to put the product into plastic first isn't necessary. Moreover, it is wasteful and cuts down on the total yield.

Protip: next time you're at mcdonalds, get mcchicken sauce, sweet and sour, and ketchup.
Get a ketchup cup and fill it with ketchup, then get another and put ketchup JUST in the bottom. Then add equal parts mcchicken sauce, sweet and sour sauce and ketchup. Find a sturdy fry and stir it all together. It's the best fry dipping sauce there is, I've converted many people. Try it.

that could be the end of the line Stuff... and they are about to throw it back into the hopper hence the small box...
