| Hey, My 98C has been acting up, so we took it to the guys at Paintball Outfitters. They said that the hex-screw in the vertical grip is stripped AND when they installed my stock they used a poxy to keep the screw in. Now they can't put in a new power tube because of that one screw. We don't want to use a drill because the guy behind the counter says that he's tried drilling out stripped screws and his bits have broken. Any ideas? I'm going to be putting more stuff on my gun in the future and Ill need that screw to come out! Please help! |

You should take the marker back to Paintball Outfitters and use it as a baseball bat to beat the guy senseless. What a freaking moron. You could have got to Lowes and bought a $.20 bolt and replaced it. In all honesty, I would take the marker back and demand that they fix it properly. If you want to fix it yourself, they make drill bit sets designed to back out stripped screws. Again, you will find them at Lowes or most hardware stores.
As for a new powertube, Tippmann internals work best. Unless your stock powertube is broken, there is absolutely no reason to replace it. Aftermarket power tubes can actually decrease performance and cause issues.

Maybe I am misunderstanding when you say the epoxied it to keep the screw in. Are you saying they put epoxy on the screw to keep it in or epoxied a stock onto your marker? Regardless, you need to take the stripped screw out and replace it. The best way, as I described is to get a stripped screw removal tool from your local hardware store. You can drill it out as well, but it will be more difficult. And as it sounds like you are not exactly handy with tools, possibly beyond your abilities. There is no way to open up the marker without removing the screw. You can't clean it, or service it without opening it. It is possible that the "acting up" is due to lack of maintenance if you aren't regularly cleaning it. As for the powertube, it is in the middle of the marker. the valve sits inside of it. Neither can be accessed without opening up the marker.
Honestly, I think you need to learn a bit more about your marker and how it works so that you can have a better idea of what you are talking about. Go to http://www.tippmannparts.com/ - www.tippmannparts.com if you do not have the original manual for the marker and go through it. If you do have the original manual, read it.

Well of course they din't poxy the stock on. And I know a lot about the gun I use; that's really a rule of thumb. And I don't really think that they put the bonding stuff on it, and I know that I'm not stupid enough to put any bonding liquid on my marker. And you didn't really answer my question.

Pretty basic stuff here and you don't know this? You know a lot about your marker, yet, you don't do simple repairs yourself, nor are you capable of putting on a stock which is probably the easiest thing to do to a 98 other than unscrewing the barrel and putting a new one on. Do you pay someone to do that as well?
As for the original problem, I reread it and it sounds like the tools that "fixed" your marker put Epoxy on the end of the bolt to hold it in since you or someone else overtightened it and it wouldn't tighten up. Sad that again, it would have been as easy as getting a replacement nut and replacing it instead of bonding it into place. Depending on the type of epoxy they used, you may have a hell of a time getting it back out. If the used a pretty light epoxy, you may be able to use an allen wrench (you know what that is I hope) and force it to unscrew. If not, you may have to resort to using a drill to drill out the gerry rigged fix that the "professionals" did on your marker.
