The "Special Olympic" comment on Leno, please, someone who is responsible for the free world, cannot manage to avoid a slur on a group of Americans in a national televised event. Makes you wonder what he says about other Americans in Private.
And then there was the Biden comment on Convienince Store attendants when he commented on Bobby Jindal after the State of the Union Republican response.
Now imagine if a Republican had made any of these comments what the media and public response would have been.
Do we now not wonder why they will not let Obama speak without his trusty telepromter, or Biden can get him the "number" of a few websites to help his communication skills. Got to love biased politics in the media.

Frankly, no one cares about either of those demographics.
Also, our last president belonged in the special olympics, so I don't think we really need to be too PC about the whole thing.

I didn't see the show (too busy with work), but if Obama really made a comment along those lines, that is inexcusable. Anyone should be able to think before they speak, especially the President.
And of all controversial subjects, he makes a joke about the special olympics? Come on now... everyone knows that one will not go over well.
I tried looking up the comment, but Fox news took the page off their site and all the other sites are blocked here.

To some extent, I believe that it is imperative that our elected officials act more decently than the common man. As bad as they are in general, this somehow appears to be the case to me.
That said, this is far from "inexscusable". It's really nothing to worry about. So, I'm with the J-meister.

I laughed pretty hard, but it was still bad. Obama was approached by a handicap person yesterday and was asked what he'd do for the debilitated. He said he wanted to get them involved in the economy. What a scape goat answer. He might as well just said "idk, get legs and we'll talk".
Im also waiting for the "First Black President Prejudice!" headline.

Awww, come off it O.S. If Bush had made the same comment, you'd have laughed and passed it off as W. being W.
If the conservatives of this nation want to be seen as a credible force and not some out there fringe loonies, we're going to have to quit making knee-jerk reactions to everything that Obama does. Does this mean we can't scrutinize everything he does? No, nor should we let our guard down on the issues that really matter, but let's face it. That comment is no worse than what you'd hear in everyday conversation. This nitpicking does nothing more than make those who do so look like whiny little runts that would be better off living in a nanny state like England.

Dunno how to feel about this-as far as I'm concerned it was funny and society should grow up and develop a sense of humor. I've made the same joke 1,244,555,234 times or so.
That said, society is a screwed up web of political correctness, and as far as that is concerned, he was completely out of line. Imagine the reaction if Bush or Clinton had made a joke about black people when talking about fried chicken...mentally challenged people are a group too, I suppose. So as far as I'm concerned he has earned any backlash he gets because he has to know the politically correct atmosphere he leads in.
Again if you took it personally you're probably either faking empathy for the sake of being politically correct, or you're just jumping on the bandwagon.
And inb4 I R SRS I HAS A MENTALLY CHALLENGED RELATIVE. You still shouldn't be so sensitive.

Yes, I understand bonuses.
They are income, just like your paycheck, you sign a contract, and if you reach the goals in the contract, you get the bonus...
Except now, if you bust your tail to reach a "bonus" level, the government can decide that they need to spread YOUR wealth around to other "more deserving" people...
I know all about bonuses, as I usually meet the requirements to get them... The government deciding to take them away is illegal. Especially the way they are going to do it...
This is what you get with "failouts". But, demonizing business is bad.
Lets put this into "laymans" terms.
Say you work at TGI fridays. You make minimum wage, plus tips.
So your "contract" is for minimum wage. Plus what people leave you on the table.
Say a guy gives you a lottery ticket for your tip. And it wins. Big.
$250,000,000.00 dollars.
The government, says, "hey, wait a minute, your business is bad, and we gave you money to "bail you out" when the hurricane came through last year."
"We are going to take that away from you..."
I guess, you would just hand it over, since they have your best interest at heart...

Oh and I almost forgot to add.
Your analogy about winning the lottery is completely off.
Had any of the executives won the lottery it wouldn't be getting taxed at 90%.
What is happening here is they needed money to save their company. After receiving this money that they needed to survive, they gave it in bonuses to the same executives who failed miserably.
They should be happy it is only 90% and not 100.

Naive has nothing to do with it.
The reports are specifically stating that bailout money is going to the bonuses. That's not naivete, that's listening.
They were given money to fix their company (which they screwed up in the first place) they took that money and invested it in executive rewards.

First thing, it's not the same people who ran the company into the ground. Those guys are gone. The new people in the executive positions of AIG are there to fix the company. They know they're taking a risk of working for a dying company that must undergo radical changes to stay afloat. That is why they agreed to work for the company with the caveat of contracts. Prior to the bailout, nobody at AIG worked on a contract. They were all at-will employees even the upper echelons. The new guys that are in there are working in the positions as much lower wages but are contracted for retention bonuses. In short, they get bonused for staying with the company and attempting to turn it around. In short, the company knows that they need these people to fix the fiasco for them and are hamstrung when it comes to what wages they can pay them. Therefore they LEGALLY (thanks to the bailout bills signed by Obama) are allowed to pay out retention bonuses.
Now that we've got that straight, the guy who did run AIG into the ground is taking this as an opportunity to make himself look like the good guy. Furthermore, AIG has the right to sue the gov't if they attempt to tax them on these bonuses. Not only would the taxation be a matter of "ex post facto" (Article 1, Section 9, Clause 3 states, "No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto law shall be passed." ) but the constitution also denies the government the ability to tax a single group. In short, they would have to tax all executive bonuses at the rate of 90% or the tax would be unconstitutional. You think we've spent enough on AIG now? Wait until the Gov't looses the lawsuit by AIG and has to pay them damages. They won't need a bailout then.

Tallen, I stand corrected.
It still seems to me that the language of the AIG bailout plan should have been written carefully enough to prevent taxpayer money from lining the coffers of execs- regardless of who they are when that money was supposed to fix the company.
Is it fixing the company by giving these execs incentive to get off the asses and fix things? Maybe, but it seems to me that if I need a lightbulb replaced, its easier to buy the lightbulb than give the janitor a few extra bucks in the hopes that the dough will provoke him to go out and buy light bulbs. Instead of just spending the money on the 'fix' -you're spending money in order to spend the money on the fix.
I don't care much for that.

Two points here:
1) I had Momo's Pizza for lunch. The slices are massive, like a square foot of pizza. I had eggplant and bacon. It was awesome.
2) While I think the remark was a bit blue, the Special Olympics have a good sense of humor about things. If you recall the movie with Johnny Knoxville, where he faked being handicapped to get into the Special Olympics? The Special Olympics roundly loved and supported the movie. They allowed all names and symbols of the Olympics to be used in the movie.

If that sincerely wasn't sarcastic, that's pathetic that you feel that way. I spent the last summer working at a special education school with autistic teenagers, and they were just as human as any other people. They hated school work, they wanted to go outside and play basketball, the guys had crushes on the girls, and vice versa. Hell, they even made fun of each other.

Heavens no! Not the big bad media!
A few questions though:
1) Who do you think is in this grand "Tippmann Liberal Party?" The Smittys were some of the only real liberals I have seen on this forum. A lot of people who get tagged as being liberals (Trolls who post just to get a rise out of you excluded) are moderate in the context of real world politics. It's just that on a right-leaning forum such as this, they are seen as being "to the left."
2) What is this "indoctrination" in the schools? What is the process of it? Which schoolling level? What would it its purpose.

OS, I can honestly say parents are way more influential to children than schools or the media, on the grounds of politics. Why did my father trump what the media said when I was younger? Simple, he was always around when we watched the news and always had an explanation to a story he felt was too far left. Only when I graduated from high school and began my first two attempts at college did I begin to form my own opinions and question the world around me which has taken me through a complete 180 from what had been drilled into my brain through conversation at home.
As for the schools, many of my teachers in both middle and high school were conservative as hell, sure it is probably different outside the South. However, they kept their political agendas out of the classroom so it never had an effect on my education.
Reb, care to weigh in or at least let us know how the teachers act at your job?

Pretty much the same for me. I didn't feel like my parents were telling me certain opinions were right/ wrong or anything, but I do agree with your post. And Im not even sure where my teachers were, left/right because it had no impact on my classes/ lessons. The only time politics came into it was in history when that was the topic.

Ironic statement seeing as how it was aimed at a
veteran who served his nation through multiple conflicts and came from
someone whose major contributions to society seem to be trolling Linus
and OS on the Tippmann forum, having to come up with different and
creative user names due to being banned on the same forum and amazingly
intellectual inputs to political discussions similar to the one quoted

LOL. As has been stated already, the irony here is overwhelming. OS risked his life for years in the military and has been through all kinds of hell in defense of our nation, only to be insulted by some little turd behind a keyboard who probably has done next to nothing for his community or his country. Personally, I don't care if you don't like OS. You can hate his guts if you want but you owe him your respect whether you agree with him or not. Remember, nobody commanded you to participate in this thread so if it bothers you, DON'T READ IT.

I consider myself moderate and feel as if I have been blasted and continued to be blasted with left-wing propaganda throughout my entire life. There isn't a television station you can watch, even be it cartoons or sitcoms, where left ideals aren't layed on pretty thick. I also believe fox news is unbearable with the right. It's amazing that you can watch the same news story on CNN and Fox and get a completely different bias to the point where it seems you're watching an entirely different topic at hand.
Throughout high school and now in college, I would say about 80-85 percent of teacher labor is made up of democrats. Given I'm a new yorker and we gotta be one of the most "liberal" states in America but it's to the point where I believe OS is semi-correct, with his "brain washing" theory.
My father is an example of a more mild OS. So I've constantly seen the clash of different ideals throughout my whole life. Because of this I've developed an almost disdain for extremists on both sides of the spectrum.
I guess the point of my post is that, in my opinion and experience, there is an overwhelming load of leftist propaganda and ideals on most network television, hollywood, and education.
And I can honestly say that from my experience on this forum that each of you would be ripping Bush a new one if he was the one that made that remark.

Would Congress agree to the same form of "regulation" on themselves with all the "lobbyists" throwing "bonuses" at them to pass regulation favorable to them, while ruining the budget of the country. Congress are the CEO's of this nation, put thier feet to the fire as well.

I agree with almost everything you say.
I've said it over and over on this forum, the problem has never been media bias, it's been the sheep that watch it. We've de-evolved to the point that we are unable, on the whole, to form an opinion based upon freely available information, but instead we follow one of two very selective trains of thought.
I'd be willing to say 60-70% of the responses I see in these threads are smart ass attempts to look cool and jump on the bandwagon. I could name off the forumers on here that you see regular intelligent posts from, and the ones you see the same elitist sarcasm from time after time.
Not that any of that bothers me, because generally the moronic sarcasm ends after you post a response that is far too long for those people to read, much less formulate a response to, and then you get to the thought out posts that actually make sense.
Crazy as it may seem, I actually enjoy being educated. Believe it or not I've really learned alot from reading T&O over the past few years, you just have to bypass the random crap. I've even had my opinions changed, whether it be here or in the real world.
