I figured I would post my big news of the day before I go to bed.

I got hired as Editor-in-Chief of the paper again today. This time for fall '09 - spring '10.

I was previously EiC during the summer of '08, and after then I was put in charge of creating the new Web presence for the paper, including the new Web site. I ran into a lot of problems my first time around due to staff problems (namely two people who were not going to get along no matter what I did), so this is a new time for me to prove myself.

The summers are always kind of seen of the "training wheels" time for people. Now I am up to bat for the real thing.

I am equal parts excited and nervous.

Congratulations are surely in order- not only for the immediate, but for the doors that this could open up for you later on.

Fire them. Threat of pink slips does wonders for attitudes.

And congrats.

The problem was 1) By the time it came to fruition enough that they COULD be fired, we were three weeks away from stopping publication for the summer. It was easier to just put up with it for three more weeks than have to run the ENTIRE news section of the paper myself while doing the Editor-in-Chief thing, and 2) It is hard to find competent replacements for news-editorial positions in the summer.

I am looking through the applicants to positions now. It looks like I will have a good year. Lots of talent.
